Is anyone planning to participate in National Novel Writing Month in November?

My roommate, another friend, and I are all planning on writing a (bad) novel in a month, and I was wondering if any 9rules are going to attempt it as well?

I always need encouragement, and people harassing me to actually get any writing done, and I thought we could all encourage each other, and help sound out ideas to get through our writing.

Any takers?

Lisa, I highly encourage you to do it (as well as any other 9rules folks who want to) -- it's an amazing sense of accomplishment to make it happen. I did it two years in a row -- 2005 and 2006 -- but I think I'm going to skip out on it this year. I have another book project I want to work on, and if I can take the time to do NaNoWriMo, I figure, I can take the time to finish that book project and do what I want to do with that. So...maybe I'll get back to the event next year?

Of course, I reserve the right to change my mind between now and November 1.

:-)

Apparently you are roping me into it :)

For the people that usually participate do they make it a public thing or do they keep their writing private to the end? What I mean is do people post their daily writings on a site to everyone to keep up with or not? I think that would be interesting. I think it would be cool to write a novel, but I was never good at fleshing out a whole story in my head due to the lack of patience I possess.

Scrivs, I'd say there are quite a few people who make their work public, although I'm not sure if most do. You can browse through the profiles or just do a google search and you'll find a lot of people's sites.

If I do decide to participate, I'll probably be making my work public in a separate blog of some sort. I'm still on the fence about it though so we'll see.

For a second year, HeatEatReview.com will participate in NaBloPoMo (aka National Blog Posting Month). It is a reasonable alternative to the pain and suffering that NaNoWriMo inflicts on friends and family.

I say that now. Just wait until it is mid-November and I'm going crazy from writing about Lean Cuisine every day.

I kept all my writing private both years that I participated, Scrivs. And trust me...while I was pleased to participate, the work I did requires some massive revision...it was not ready for the public at all...

I've done it the last couple years, and I tend to keep it private, too. I might post really awesome scenes that I thought were brilliant, but by and large the majority of stuff that comes out during NaNo really isn't fit for public consumption.

And Abi, I might have to do NaBloMoPo a try to, even if it's just a post saying that I hit my word goal for the day. Thank god for the non-9rules livejournal account where I post random junk.

Shit, I wish I had time to write blog posts, nevermind novels.

Chris, I wish you had time to write blog posts too! Or even just time to chat in IRC (granted, that would require me to be in the room as well).

I attempted NaNoWriMo last year when I was taking 3 classes, and fell woefully short of the 50,000 word count needed. I'm not even going to bother trying this year, while taking 5 classes and working some at the library. :) I do, however, salute those of you who are giving it a whirl.

@lisa: Yeah, I've been missing from IRC for a few months. I have Twitter, which is basically just a public AIM for me, lol

I wished I had time to do this, but no, I don't. I have barely enough time to blog-hop these days! :(

If anyone here wants some information on how they can participate with video - yesterday I featured NaNoWriMo on Viddler since there is a growing community of WriMos using it over there.

Can't wait to see what happens in November!

I will do it again this year...my third time.

I keep my work private, as it needs an extreme amount of editing, because I am writing the content in order to finish the 50K wordcount.

I did the screenplay version of this with a writing partner in June, and we're currently seeking financing for it. I may cheat and do a screenplay again, or do the novelization of the idea, as I haven't decided if I'm going to participate yet....

If anyone wants to add me as a writing buddy, here's my profile.

I decided to do it after all. Writing a novel has always been a goal of mine. I figure it's now...or later. I don't want to say never.

I never have time to join because this is the time I'm always busy with my final exams. Maybe next year. Always next year, preferably when I don't have to deal with exams again for the rest of my life.

My roommate is busy clicking her novel as I peruse 9rules. She's about 7,000 words in and shooting for 2,000 a day to make the goal and leave herself some wiggle room at the end.

I don't do novels. So it's not for me. But I think it's a really neat idea.
