Do you use Facebook applications?

I've been working on Facebook applications and I would like to conduct an "informal poll" with the 9rules community. To cut to the chase, please respond with either:
- I don't use Facebook
- I use Facebook, but I don't like Facebook apps because they are:
- Stupid
- Not worth the time
- Clutter-riffic
- Some other reason
- I do use Facebook apps (and let me know if you've ever developed any)
Also, please do share any ideas you have about the things Facebook apps shouldn't do, like forcing you to an invite page or putting a bunch of spam on your profile. I'm thinking of writing an "app manifesto" for things that app developers should agree to and I could really use ideas. Thanks in advance!

I use Facebook and I use some apps. However, I HATE when people have 52 apps and their profiles look like a stupid MySpace page.
I've added 6 apps, and only 3 are visible on my Facebook. The reason I've decided to display them is that they're meant to be 100% interactive (Where I've Been, My Questions, and Neighborhoods).
Hope that helps.

I use Facebook and I am very selective with the apps I use. Like Erin, I loathe it when people have what seems like a zallion apps. It annoys me even more when people keep throwing things at me, or biting me or something and try to get me to add the app!
I use:
* a twitter app
* a flickr app to pull my pictures across
* an emote one (well, I've got to have a few smilies in my online life!
I have added, but only because I get bullied into it by a certain group of friends when I'm down the pub:
* x-me
* superpoke
* free gifts
And that's it.
How do I decide what to add/what not to add? I don't think I can really give a succinct answer unfortunately. I don't actually use FB actively - I maintain a presence there and use it to keep in touch with certain friends, but I don't live my life in it like some people.
When I do add an app, I want it to have the minimum number of pages to click through and I don't want it to immediately take me to an "Invite all your friends!" page. I firmly believe that if my friends want to add something to their profile, they will find it themselves.

I use Facebook and have some apps that don't cause too much clutter. And aren't extremely pointless like the zombie/werewolf/etc ones.
Can't give a list since I'm at work and it's blocked. However, I'm pretty fickle with my app adding.

I do use Facebook and I do try to limit the number of applications based on minimizing clutter. And then there are some that I use only because people keep "using" them on me so it somewhat makes me feel like I'm missing out if I get all these notifications from the same app yet don't add them. Another way of putting that is on Facebook, peer pressure is pretty effective. :P

I don't give a crap when people use stupid apps on me... I get poked, prodded, bitten, and zombified, and I just hit "ignore". I think that aspect of the apps is incredibly obnoxious.

It's funny, ErinR. I just gave in. Well, the SuperPoke one I did. And then I suddenly liked the idea of throwing sheep...

Another Facebook user here. I have a couple of apps but in general I don't like to add them. As with the others here I just think they clutter the place up. I certainly don't like all those werewolf/ vampire etc apps.
I've developed a couple of apps for work (miniclip.com) as well. One is pretty simple, basically just a page of content, nothing particularly dynamic. The other I can't mention since it's not released yet.
Regarding your manifesto, I think my opinions as a user are not the same as the average user (those who add 50 apps to their pages), and my opinions as a developer vary even more.
I'd be interested to read whatever you come up with.

I do use Facebook, but like so many others, I'm selective of my apps to prevent from looking like a a bomb went through my profile.
What I try to do is put in the ones that I think make the most sense to a profile which are Twitter, Flickr and Stumbleupon.
The rest, My Questions, Last.fm and Friends Collage are just things I put in just to spruce things up a bit.
Superwall was just because I got annoyed with everyone sending me messages and I wanted to see what's it about.
As for the rest of it, they can be permanently ignored, which I wish Facebook can have the option to do so.

3. Clutter-riffic
It's like a cleaner MySpace... Which is still better than MySpace, yet worse than vintage Facebook.

I have to be honest, I am a horrible Facebook user. I have tons of friend requests in there that I have yet to answer. I've logged in only a half dozen times. I think it is because I never used it during the college/high school only years - so it never "stuck" with me.

I use a few that have interaction with viewers and last night i created my own app. I am going to work on some more apps to make my profile more unique.

I don't use any apps on my page either...for #1, 2, 3. I'm a Facebook purist like many others above.

I log into Facebook more than a few times a day (yes i am addicted) and I use only a selective number of applications:
1. Video (don't understand why it's not added by default)
2. Neighborhoods
3. Extended Info
I have a few other installed, but disabled from viewing in my profile (trips, socialmoth and quizzes).
What I don't like about the apps:
1. Take too much space in the profile
2. Don't look professional
3. Waste of time
4. Totally useless
5. Those damn invitations you get a 100 of everyday.

I use Facebook alright, but I spend most of my time logged in ignoring applications that are sent my way throughout the day. For the rest of the time I am logged in, I do a quick search for my friends and see whether they have updated anything on their page that is worth looking at (and I'm NOT talking about apps here).
I use some apps, but like the majority of us here, I am very selective, and I don't add anything that are being sent my way just because you were my high school sweetheart (or whatever).
The main reason for this is that I don't like to wade through all those "huggies" and "super pokes" and "super hugs" and "horrible-looking drawings on walls" before getting to the updates that I am interested in.

Facebook apps started as a great idea, and have turned into an uncontrollable monster. I spend all day ignoring pokes, bites, hugs, kisses, slaps, zaps, and god knows what else.
The only apps I use are ones that serve some purpose, and anyone that invites me to anything else can kindly take the next bus to hell.
I've got the last.fm to make sure my friends know how awesome my taste in music is, and the Scrabulous one -- which is unobtrusive and provides a nice distraction, without pissing anyone off.
Edit: Apparently Video isn't a default app, so I have that too. Now there's an example of a brilliantly made, well-integrated application that is actually useful in the context of Facebook. Made by, unsurprisingly, Facebook themselves.

I use Facebook apps, but only a few.
I also use Free Gifts and Scrabulous, but I don't have those visible on my profile.
I hate it when people have like 5 different types of walls to post things on. Just cut to the straight, people!

I use very few apps and the ones I do use are very neatly positioned and blended in with the layout. I too hate people's ugly pages looking more and more like myspace, the only thing i hate more is the applications invites! I don't like zombies ffs! lol.

I use Facebook and have quite a few apps installed, although not all of them show up on my profile; and I'm working on getting rid of some that I don't really care about.
I try to have them all positioned in such a way that there's some balance on the profile page (if that makes sense).

I only use a small few facebook mobile, flickr stream, twitter feed, profile badges, digg, and xbox gamercard.
On a side note what the heck is with the pirate + vampire + ninja + cyborg + normal wall + fun wall + superwall...?
Only thing left to do is set "tom" as everyones top friend.

One of my friends recommended the Neighborhoods application so that I could see (learn about, but not in a scary way, more in a mild, nice way) who else was on Facebook and living in grad student housing at my non-University.
So I installed the app. AND THEN IT SENT A NOTIFICATION TO EVERYONE I KNOW.
ARAHASDFGHAGD.
I could have sworn that I skipped that option, but apparently I was wrong. Don't the people I have as 'friends' already freaking know where I live? Yeah, they probably do. BECAUSE THEY CAN SEE MY ADDRESS. ON MY PROFILE PAGE.
ARAHAGAGHG.
I hate that kind of crap.
P.S. I am sorry if you're my friend on Facebook (because some of you here are) and you got that notification.

If anyone wants some invites to cool apps I've built, let me know... via Facebook message, that is.
Abi: That's great that you mention that, I'm making a list of things apps SHOULD NOT do.
