Would anyone like to try out the newest social, web2.0, flirting, ajaxy site out there?
http://www.iminlikewithyou.com/
The first five people to share the best apple-related recipes (I have about 10 sitting around, not sure what to do) will get an invite.

And no I'm not talking about an iMac cake or anything. I mean green apples. ;)

I've been a member for a bit and it's an 'odd' service.
I guess since I'm not seriously looking to do anything but check it out, it doesn't seem to click with me :)

For others it's strangely addictive and fun. ;)

RightOn, what do you mean by "odd"? Just looking at the site I'm not exactly sure what it does besides people bidding on you (I think).
I mean it's like a Match.com thing, right?

An invite-only dating service? That doesn't seem to make much sense to me... online dating works so well because of the sheer number of options. By making it so "exclusive," my guess is that it will encounter some problems. I may be wrong, though.

Call me old, but it's just a 'flirting' site with a TON of eye candy, and not to mention it's invite only.
I find that a bit... odd ;)

Tyme is partially right. You earn points interacting with the site (answering questions about yourself, filling in your profile). You then create a 'game' that people bid on (for your attention). The game lasts (at the most) 3 days and people can continue to bid.
At the end, the game creator can pick one of the people from the top 5 bidders to be 'in contact with'. This means you're then allowed to send them a message and even call them (without knowing their number).
So, you can't just randomly meet and talk to anyone you want. You play others' games and create your own.
Erin, it's in beta. Hence exclusivity...

I don't see why they call it a "game" when they just want you to toss points at someone.
Games usually involve "fun" things ;)

So what are the "games"? Give me an example of one.
Let's say I search around and I see a guy I want to meet. He has a game (whatever that is) and I throw points at it (I hope that's right). If I make sure I'm the top bidder, does he have to pick me? By being the highest bidder does that guarantee me some contact?

I have trouble even remembering the whole URL. :)

@Devin: I realize it's in beta, but to quote from the site, "We are currently invite only, and probably always will be."

@Tyme: It's just a Q/A thing. I make a game like 'What would we do on a first date?' or 'Name your favorite 1990s rock band'. You have limited space to type a response (maybe 50 characters) so it's nothing complex.
Like I said, the person has to pick from the top 5. Being #1 guarantees nothing. Only the possibility they will choose you over the other 4 (this time).
@estarla: iilwy.com ;)
@ErinR: Right, but, as we can see, it's not hard to find an invite if you really want to be on it. Hehe..

Did you ever get a recipe?
Tyme
Written May. 24, 2007 / Report /
@Devin: if I'm not chosen do I get my points back (that would be too easy)?
@Scrivs: Haha, good one except I pick the best one out of the 5. Whether the guy believes it...but the site takes care of that by notifying the winner he/she was picked.
So what if you're in a relationship, married, interested in someone, etc....is there something to do other than flirt?

Haha, both good recipes. Feel free to email devin at devin reams dot com.
@Scrivs: Yeah, I figure this saves her the hassle of getting up.
@Tyme: I admit I don't know exactly how it works. You get some back but you also loose some for not being picked.. or something like that.
I'm in a relationship and it's still fun to just browse and come up with clever responses. I'm sure my girlfriend loves giving guys false hope, too. ;)

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople
INGREDIENTS
1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
8 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Melt the butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add water, white sugar and brown sugar, and bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let simmer.
Place the bottom crust in your pan. Fill with apples, mounded slightly. Cover with a lattice work of crust. Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust. Pour slowly so that it does not run off.
Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until apples are soft.
... and you still have 2 apples to spare.

The absurdity of the URL name + everything you've mentioned makes it seem pretty cool to me, and I hate social networking sites (wait, is 9Rules a social networking site!?!?!?) and even more, I have utterly no need for a dating site (I'm a twice divorced eunuch happily married to 13 women and living on the moon.)
Here's my best apple recipe (no invite required, consider it a freebie):
Ingredients
One apple
Tap water dispenser
Teeth
Mix all of the above together and enjoy.

Discovered this site yesterday, that only lets you in if you're pretty enough.
mooiemensen.com - beautiful people - site in Dutch only :-(
You send a couple pix and the team decide whether you'll do.
Talk about exclusive. We need something like that :-D

It's nuts isn't it? Thing is, what's "beautiful"? I think most of those broads on there look like Rumanian hookers.
Or something like that :-)
Guys don't seem that awesome either, but what do I know.
