Incoming feature request:

On your profile page, there's a notification when you get new messages (both up top on any main page and on the messages tab in your profile), but no such indicator for points or friend requests. I just found 3 pending friend requests and I wouldn't have known I had the points unless I happened to check.

I love the new style and features, but I fear, like a great local rock band going on a hit national tour and "selling out," that 9rules too is doomed to become not as tight nit.

Hey zkatkin, I hope the opposite is true. Now you have much more incentive to pay attention to what other people write, to write more yourself, and to visit the sites and blog entries of your friends. This is just the beginning, the customizable features will be better integrated into the site and we still have stuff in the pipeline that's finished but not launched yet because it would be far too much at once.

Rich, good call on a better indicator system. We'll work on that for sure.

Tom, yeah, the cursor problem is (hopefully) relegated to IE. I worked for many, many hours last night hacking the stylesheet to work with IE6 but that was one problem I couldn't find a solution to. I'll keep working on it though cause no doubt, it's annoying.

So far I don't get it, but I'm new here. I'm along for the ride, we'll see where it gets us.

This is definitely a big re-design. When I first saw the homepage, I was like, wtf, there is too much info on the homepage. But as Mike said, he might tone down parts of it. It might take a little more time for me to get used to the new site. I am still exploring it.

My head exploded when I clicked on my 9rules bookmark. Like seriously, my walls are covered in wet, sticky re-design admiration. By far the most well put together design 9rules has ever had.

Whoa, I just realized that was not such a good analogy...thing. I feel disgusting now ):

Looks great!

You guys just keep getting better and better at involving the non-member community in 9Rules and I love it!

Oh crap.... I just posted a new note but I should have posted it here... Sorry Tyme for intruding on this thread! Anyways, fantastic.

Everyone, I can't even begin to express how impressed I am with Ali.

It just looks fantastic, and the site loads much quicker for me as well.

Great job to Scrivs, Mike, Tyme, and Colin.

This is absolutely awesome.

I'll admit that even as a 9rules member, I haven't really been using 9rules.com all that much. The notes functionality felt too detached from the community at large; instead, i found myself conversing with other 9rulers and less with the community. In a way, I've been biting the hand that feeds, I guess, although the biting was light.

A lot of the things that made 9rules.com less-than-stellar have been worked out, and there's now a much greater potential for a sense of community on the front end of 9rules. I'll definitely be around more often.

"Grumpy" chimping in here.

I've said before how much I like this redesign. It has successfully taken care of many of the issues that were debated around here these past months.

BUT ...

I don't like the homepage ... at all.

It's uneven and too massive. Because Mike has been working his pretty rear end of for this version, I'm sure he will still be designing, fixing, tweaking etc. for weeks to come, but if it isn't on the list, a realignment of elements on the homepage is a must, I think.

The green Communities box should line up with something ... anything. Right now it doesn't. I'm serious when I say that it's driving me up the wall. I need things neat. orderly (I'm German), and that placement is just jarring. Perhaps, one could add some sort of info text below the search box to push the Communities one down to line up with my.9rules or, better, the Recent Notes box because they have the same shape? I'm on a big monitor, so maybe that's too far down?

No matter what, the most important page is just too uneven, I think (the way the elements themselves are laid out is sweeeeet and just up my alley ... I'm just not happy with the relationship/arrangement of the elements on the page).

Secondly, I've often complained about the ads at the top. It shouldn't be too difficult to stop having them hang around like detached elements, perhaps shrinking them a bit in size and adding one to make them line up with the grid below? Or were they sold at those dimensions and they have to be kept?

Aside from that, I have some small quibbles here and there but will wait a week or two because I know that there's a mile-long list of things that will be taken care of ... no need to complain before the need arises. ;)

I love this new version of 9rules and once everything is finalized, it will the one version others have to compete with.

I've said it before in a more private place and I'll say it again here more openly: 9rules has dared to take a step that clearly distinguishes us and what we do here from other similar enterprises which - in my eyes - have grown more than stagnant.

9rules is dynamic and forward-oriented and I'm proud of being a member here.

Here's to the new 9rules which grumpy old me is VERY happy with.

This is awesome, indeed. I follow a number of 9rulers' work, but it's always felt a bit elite - that is a closed system - and while I understand the selection process is quite rigorous, this new system should definitely allow for greater interaction and a better sense of community for the writers and the readers.

I can't wait to explore this even more. Thanks a lot.

I do love it! The colors are beautiful and its fairly easy to get around ..... but what do the "points" mean?

It was a shock, i can tell you that. I was waiting for a feature like my.9rules and thing you've done a great job. The design is something I aspire to.

Well done :).

The home page is too busy for my taste... there is too much competing for my attention and there appears to be too many ways to get to the same place and do the same thing. It looks nice.

Just wow. I love it.

Wow guys... I am blown away by the new Ali overhaul. I would say GREAT job but that would be an understatement. Keep up the good work. I can't wait to explore the site some more.

Very, very nice.

Wow. Love all this new stuff you got going on.

Thanks guys. We like it too.

Great job! Well done! Much more involving.

Great! I am happy to find you all! How did i come here? Yes, i was in Google search. I opened 4 tabs. Yours was interesting to look at. Don't remember what happened next but i am here. In side was more interesting than out side. Particularly, 9 rules! Thanks!

I actually like the new homepage better, although the community pulldown makes it difficult to find a community (could that be alphabetical?). More after a day or two

it's looking great but where is the "store" ? Also, when you post a note why does it kick you back to the first post of the topic on the first page if it's a multi page note. Is that a limitation of BBpress?

*didn't notice the date*

Not to confuse everyone, but this Note refers to the first version of Ali launched in February. Here is the Ali2 Note and the my.9r store.

Just a reminder folks, this is the old Ali thread from when we launched back in January :)

I'm basically in love with the new homepage.

My first reaction is: wow, this is really a big change for the better!!! I'll go and explore it further, having FUN.

Congratulations and thanks for all your work on it :-)

Really amazing guys!!!
Great work!
The new 9rules rocks :P

Absolutely amazing redesign. The site is way more engaging now than it was before. I've never before spent so much time on 9rules just wondering around and discovering all the different goodies.

A huge thumbsup!!!
