28 CommentsWe have two new pages to show you today and a new bit of functionality that we need your help testing out. You can check out the profile edit page by going to this url with your username:

As you can see on the right is an upload avatar form where you can upload an avatar to the site and it will be used in place of the wonderful smileys that we have made the default for Chawlk. The reason we would like for you to test this out is:
- We don't want to launch with a million smiley faces across the site.
- We are using Amazon's S3 service and want to test it out.
The reason we are going with S3 (even after the recent outage) is because although (mt) hooks us up to the fullest, we don't want to have manage a file server and figured that small image hosting can be offloaded to Amazon without any worries from us. So no more putting the burden on you to figure out how to host your avatar and in all honesty we know this took longer than it should have.
What this also means though is that you are guaranteed to see the ability to upload items to the Chawlk store so you can really start to maximize the economy that have built around Points. You can upload headers and avatars at the very least. We will also be offering our own custom-designed avatars for you to use in case you don't have one to upload yourself.

Nothing really new with this one yet.
So give them a test run and let us know what you think and if the functionality isn't working or not. As usual these pages are still subject to change some.

Probably you could lose the Avatar URL field right?
Oops I think when I deleted the URL from the Avatar URL field it killed my 9r avatar... whoops.

LOL, I had the same "clever idea" Carmodyarc had.
This is nicer than using a URL though.
Nice to see FB and YT URLs added too. But MySpace? Shudder.

Getting the Please Login page with the This are serious error page cat. I tried to login but it just reloads to that page and never logs me in to my profile.

@dreamweaver: Can you logout on 9r and test the 9r login to make sure it works then use the login at the top of Chawlk? If that doesn't work shoot me a PM and we will get to the bottom of this.

We'll lose the URL field once the transition is complete. As it stands now almost all of the activity takes place on 9rules and people like to have an identity and since this new code doesn't get moved over to 9r the url field stays at the moment. Hopefully I'm not an ass and forget about it (guaranteed now).

For the longest time I thought you guys were talking about the avatar upload form redirecting, but you mean the actual profile form. Well that no longer redirects so it should be working, but nobody is uploading their avatars. Come on people, we have too many crazy smileys on Chawlk!

I did a cacheless refresh and a cleared my cache. I used Opera and God forbid IE as well, all redirected me back to 9rules when I tried to update my Chalk profile.

The odd thing is that it did update because the changes I made (my Facebook link) is updated. My avatar link is there as well, but it's not changing the avatar.
