The Crunchies awards will be streamed live today (Jan. 18th) around 6.30 PST. Here's the video stream embed (or watch here):

(Apparently Mogulus is catching on.)

If you're not familiar the Crunchies, it's a joint project between a few tech news sites (Techcrunch & co.)

110,872 votes were cast for finalists in too many categories to cite here.

Ain't that something - TechCrunch wasn't covering Mogulus that much in comparison to the others. And I see Mogulus has made changes to their embedded player. Hmm...wonder what else is going on over there.

Thanks for da linky! :)

Maybe they went with Mogulus because they were willing to make functionality changes for them? On embedding, I got a whole range of options when I clicked 'Get Embed Code'. Color, size, etc.

One thing — I loathe that it auto-plays. You can click that big fat power button, but 'off' should really be the default mode.

WOW. Mogulus implemented (on the front end) many of the changes we suggested publicly. Like the chat box? Much easier to follow the conversation and they added options for the user to use (bold, underline, etc.). UStream like in the ability for anonymous people to chose a username.

Odd, I see some players that are off by default. I am not sure how they do it but here is an example (right side). I did not turn it off, it loaded off. Perhaps thers is a setting in the embed code (instead of on by default it should be off by default)?

Cool -- Mogulus definitely had a better feel to the UI than last time. It also had a lot fewer hiccups in the stream, but unfortunately not completely free (got put down by the (delightful) anonymous chatters for it).

Did you watch? It wasn't free of the kind of ailments that tend to stick in your memory — Garageband free stock music clip for award themesong, Arrington proclaiming he has no idea what's next, shaking camera work — but all in all I think they did an okay job.

They had Fake Steve Jobs give a speech, accepting the iPhone as the best gadget. Pretty funny, but took it overboard by having it too long.

The complete list of winners was published in writing before they'd given out all of the awards. Very strange.

Edit: @Tyme, you're right. There was an on/off setting in the embed code.

The Crunchies, what a joke, a bunch of geeks with plastic monkeys, blathering about web 2.0 s*** like it matters...

Funny. I always thought you were over 18.

What's even more funny is that you seemed to have taken my criticism personally. Relax.

No worries, I didn't.

(Edit: Refer to this similar sentiment.)
