Tomorrow is my birthday and I'm sure when most people think about that day they think about parties and good times. Me I tend to dread them. Don't get me wrong, I love going out with friends and everyone toasting you and stuff, but it's always the realization that you are that closer to death. That much older. WTF have you done with your life?! These thoughts tend to drown out everything else until the day after where life returns to normal.
So I decided a long time ago that if I was going to have birthday blues that I should do it in a room full of naked women. That seems to balance it out a bit.

I wouldn't look at it as that much closer to death... you could be hit by a truck tomorrow and die. What does a year mean then?

Means I shouldn't have gotten older.

Well that's awfully negative :D
We all get older... you just have to stop thinking about it and live like you could die any second (you could)
God that sounds like a greeting card.

I'm with RightOn. Buck up, you've got your whole life ahead of you...well, assuming...
Happy birthday! I celebrated mine a couple of weeks ago

On one birthday I completely freaked out. I was told by a wise person that if things could return to normal when that day passed it's just a day, not to be used as a marker of accomplishments or a reminder of failures. That life progresses because people act and try to accomplish their goals.
He's smart...good advice he had.

Nope, face it, it's over. All the good times are past. Things will never be as good as they were, it's all downhill from here. You're getting less intelligent and more ugly every passing day.
Now, if you bought all that then I've got a bridge to sell you, and some swamp land down in south florida... and hail Xenu. Also, I poo gold bricks.
I've always looked at birthdays as an excuse to get some free food, booze, and attention. Nothing wrong with that. Also it marks another year I managed to survive against all odds! Some of my favourite people to hang out with are in their 50s, and I know you're nowhere near that yet. How old are you anyway?

Scrivs, didn't you write once on your other blogs something about seeing New Years being just another day instead of some type of milestone to deliver something new? How's your bday any different?
Honestly, I've had blues moments similiar to you. I've come to the conclusion though that when those moments come, it's because I'm attempting to measure myself against some unmet personal standard instead of appreciating those things I have achieved and met. Tomorrow, commit to putting everything else away, and relish only in your moments of accomplishment.
It'll be all good.

28, not 100 like all of you.

101, thank you very much.
And I don't remember what I was doing at 28, but it probably involved some slavedriver micro manager, 20 hour days, a #ccc colored cubicle and full-size bikini clad blonde posters draping the walls and adding some much needed color to said cubicle.
Sure wasn't at home in my jammies and collecting my Google Ad checks from my social network though.
Not even 30...what a waste of worry.

I turned 28 in March. I'm better now than I was then. You will be too.

Guess it's not complete without a little wisdom from the other side. You can die at any time at any moment. You don't need your birthday to remind you of that. In retrospect, having a little planet that could travel one more circle around the sun doesn't put it into any perspective either.
If you're wondering what you have accomplished through life, let your friends be a testament of that. If you're wondering what else are you going to do through life, let yourself be the hand that writes that.
It's hard to measure a lifetime of goals when all you can see is the immediate point around you. So what matters has always been the now. To work as hard for what you want to achieve today. To play as hard for what you want to fun with today.
Because achievements are just frozen memories in time. If you're going to spend once a year wondering about them, you might as well make them count right?

What you should be concerned with is one year older does not guarantee one year wiser. :)
