Pidgin FTW! :) I used to use Trillian but I prefer Pidgin's performance.

Pidgin FTW indeed. :)
Another Pidgin convert from Trillian here. I can use it anywhere as well since I have one running off my thumbdrive. My only issues are that it kept crashing. But the new Pidgin 2.1.0 seems to have fixed that problem. I can't wait till they integrate the new MSN protocol. That's my only beef with it.

I've actually moved from adium, which is great, to ichat, because of the video conferencing and upcoming document preview-in-conference

Adium mostly. Unless I'm not at my desktop, then I keep google mail open in a tab. If video conferencing picks up, I can see myself throwing Skype or iChat into the mix.

Adium/iChat
If you are using iChat without Chax you are missing out. Go grab it and start enjoying iChat more.

I'd much rather use iChat, but unfortunately I'm stick with Adium due to all my MSN contacts. I know about the jabber method, but that just doesn't feel right. No avatars, and I couldn't find any servers.

Windows Live Messenger and mIRC.
I'd happily move to another MSN client if it supported Video and Audio and wasn't Trillian.

Windows Live Messenger + Gmail in Windows.
Pidgin in Ubuntu.
Chatzilla for IRC in all.
I don't like using Pidgin in Windows as GAIM wasn't happy running under Win32 for me.

I use adium because I can't for the life of me figure out how to get iChat AIM connections through my router's NAT, but adium works fine... go figure

I use iChat.
I tried the msn trick too, and I got it to work, but adding all of the users in was such a pain so I never did it.
Adium always crashed, and I got so sick of that picture with the bird on fire... maybe they fixed it now?
I have msn on my mac too, but I rarely log on... too many people that want to chat for hours on end. :-/

Pidgin at home on Ubuntu but I have to split it up with AIM and Yahoo! at work since we're locked down on what software we can use on our computers.

Adium! I would use iChat but everyone else I know is on MSN/Windows Live so it's a no-go for me. Plus I like how Adium is infinitely customisable.

Twitter and Gmail.
Very occasionally MSN - however I find Instant Message clients tend to be a massive distraction and IRC can be a very unhealthy environment to exist in.
