Commercialisation of Christmas

I have heard almost everything being touted the true meaning of Christmas in the past month. I iterate the word almost because I believe there is one thing most businesses won’t touch with a ten foot pole to promote Christmas…religion.
What place does religion have in Christmas? The only mention of Jesus I have heard lately is as Santa’s friend or helper. I have endured so many movies in the past fortnight about someone saving Christmas, it would make your head spin. What I can’t and won’t find is something to actually do with Christianity.
Rudolph, Comet, Prancer and Dancer are ten times more likely to enter the vocabulary this season than any of the disciples. How many people will be singing along to Amazing Grace, compared to Rudolph the red nosed reindeer at your shopping centre?
I am by no stretch of the imagination the most religious of people, yet I am compelled to write this. It seems as though the generation before me actually sold Christmas, they just did it so slowly no-one realised it.
I leave you with the true meaning of Christmas…the day Santa was born right?

Honestly, the secularization of Xmas doesn't really bother me. I don't expect non-Christians to celebrate the birth of Christ. In some ways it's good that non-Christians are expressing their disbelief. I'd rather have people openly communicate the fact that they're not Christians rather than put on a facade that many people in previous generations sometimes did.
In many ways too, I think that Easter should be the bigger celebration for Christians. The birth of Christ is certainly something we should celebrate (even though most evidence points to His birth being in the summer) but the resurrection of our Savior is surly something to be treasured!

Ben: Take this scenario a migrant comes to Australia, just hearing about this Christmas thing is intrigued.
He goes to his local video store which is decked out in Christmas decorations, rents ten Christmas movies, watches a couple of hours of TV. He goes to his local shopping mall, enjoys the carols, he is beginning to become an expert he knows all about Santa, the Elves, Rudolph, Christmas Trees, Decorations, Presents, Christmas Dinner etc.
Then he receives a phone call from his brother who asks about the true meaning of Christmas...
There is no freaking way he would say anything remotely to do with Christianity or the birth of Christ.

Yeah, I mean, I can see that.
