Don't know if you've seen a site called 'Jew Watch'. It's a nasty collection of lies, conspiracy theory and crypto-fascist crap.

As you can tell, I've had enough. And yes, I'm jewish.

Google can't remove them without engaging in censorship. I understand that.

I have another suggestion: Let's bury them. Here's how I'd like to do it:

1. Move other sites up. There are several Holocaust museums, plus the Museum of Tolerance in L.A., that certainly deserve a better ranking. While they're not strictly jewish history, certainly they're relevant. I am contacting each museum to see if they'd like help. If any other SEOs out there are interested in helping out, let me know, and I will manage things from here.

2. Create new content. Write 10-15 pages of content focused on the word 'jew', and then get them parasite hosted on sites with good authority. That alone might bump them. I can think of lots, which I won't share here in case the folks at Jew Watch engage in DOS attacks on top of everything else.

3. Build links to all of these sites. If you have any link juice you'd want to send towards more legitimate sites, please, let me know and I'll try to coordinate that, too.
There are more things to do, I know. But this is a start.

Hate speech shouldn't win, above all online. The community should be able to shout it down, especially online.

Please, spread the word.

I have seen the site, and had heard of it a few weeks back, after reading an article about the site.

Apparently (according to google), they come up in the top three (if not number one), because of the word "Jew" in the name of the site. This according to google:

"A site's ranking in Google's search results relies heavily on computer algorithms using thousands of factors to calculate a page's relevance to a given query. Sometimes subtleties of language cause anomalies to appear that cannot be predicted. A search for "Jew" brings up one such unexpected result.

If you use Google to search for "Judaism," "Jewish" or "Jewish people," the results are informative and relevant. So why is a search for "Jew" different? One reason is that the word "Jew" is often used in an anti-Semitic context."

The full explanation can be found here. http://www.google.com/explanation.html

I understand. But there's absolutely NO reason we can't boost other sites above it, thereby shoving it off the front page.

This is actually an old site and I'm glad Lorri pointed to the official Google explanation for it.

wrttnwrd: In case you're not aware, 9rules has a Pagerank of 8 so this post might actually make it to the front page for the term within a day or two. You're already helping the cause!

wrttnwrd: As Mike stated, "you're already helping the cause".

I agree with you, there is NO reason other sites can't be boosted above it.

I am Jewish, also, and I don't disagree with you.

Thanks.

Maybe I'll post 40 more notes :)

Kidding. I'm kidding...

I often wonder - if these conspiracy theorist/fascists were RIGHT, why wouldn't we just have their site wiped from the face of the earth?...

To keep up appearances, of course. The best prison is one which you don't know exists, so therefore if any heavy handed tactics are used then the Institute of the Jewish Expropriation of the World (IJEW, or iJew, as secret member Steve "Shlomo" Jobs calls it)would quickly be uncovered, and all right thinking men and women of the world would rise against the Jew menace which threatens to destroy our humanity.

You look surprised. You think I'm meshuga, maybe? What, do I look like I'm shlemiel? You should have a bagel, maybe. It'll make you feel all better. And have some wine. Get all vashnika with it, why don't ya.

Hmm...Gnorb is either being playful or is about to start a seriously heated conversation.

Maybe if you got the Chinese Government to ask them they would be more compliant!

Hmm...Gnorb is either being playful or is about to start a seriously heated conversation.

You know, I thought "iJew" would sort of give it away...

Gnorb: Dang, you have figured out our Master Plan.

Everyone, if Gnorb loses internet access in the next few days, pay no notice.

And by the way, it's meshugga...

Actually it's משוגע

So there.

Augh, I've been out heebed. You didn't even use vowels...

Somehow I highly doubt that word will show up in this week's Torah reading :)

I'm impressed Gnorb!

out heebed

I just snorted. Thanks for the chuckle.

Wow! I'm Jewish and I can haltingly read Hebrew, but that even stumps me! About your original concept though---- I usually tend to ignore, stop reading, change the channel or station when I hear/ read anything I find extremely offensive but on this particular issue I am openly a hypocrite. I do not quietly just ignore. Please do bring this to people's attention, as you're already doing. The Anti-Defamation League most likely has political, legal, lobbying power also.

auburn: I agree. This guy is way beyond the pale.

There is a petition circulating. Google has said that with 500,000 signatures they'll remove the listing. That, to me, sounds like they really don't want to remove it (which by the way I agree with - no censorship is OK on a public forum, and Google now counts).

I believe ADL is already involved.

Mike: I'm definitely a heathen when it comes to practicing Judaism, but yes, I probably just got moved 3 pages closer to the appendix in the Book of Life.

The petition is at:

http://www.petitiononline.com/rjw23/petition.html

And actually it already has 313,000 signatures. Hmmm....

Yes, I meant to mention the petition and forgot. I signed it a few weeks back, when I saw the google explanation.

Yes, the signatures are growing.

Has petitiononline.com ever accomplished anything?

I think posting other info about Jewish history and such on your blog and others willing to cooperate would be the best method. I'm amazed at how much content that guy has though. It's rare to see someone that obsessed.

I'm not sure if they have accomplished anything.

I agree with posting information, etc., on blogs, although it will take a massive amount of blogging to push that site down.

Plenty of hate mongers out there for every race, creed and religion. The question is not whether the site in question should be wiped, but rather once the wiping begins, when and where will it stop?

Cappuccino hit the nail on the head there. I think that the owner of that site is a disgusting, piece of crap and deserves to have him nipples twisted off with a rusty pair of pliers, but if we do get him wiped off with that petition or any other means where will it stop. I am sure there are thousands of people around the world that hate my blog because I am a Christian, why not wipe mine off too?

I believe you first idea would be the most effective and the most satisfying.

I totally agree - the petition's there for those who want it.

I'd rather crush the life out of this guy via normal means. Much more satisfying.

It looks as if someone is trying to do their part (Tikkun olan). There is a new blog which opened on Sept. 28th (Jew Wishes). It has over 210 hits (not a lot, but growing). It is sites like this, that could eventually end up squashing JW, at some point.

http://jewwishes.wordpress.com/

I checked to see if that domain name was taken, and it is, but who knows if it is the same person as the Jew Wishes blog.

There's one more way to go after this. Google has a mode called "safe search" that is meant to protect users from violent or sexually explicit content. Why not ask Google to block hate sites as well? They are certainly no less harmful. If we had 500,000 people join a campaign to get that result I'm sure that Google would take action. I work for a site called The Point (www.thepoint.com) that could be used to launch such a campaign.

"Google can't remove them without engaging in censorship. I understand that."

Maybe if you got the Chinese Government to ask them they would be more compliant!

Agreed, Google is the epitome of corporate scum, now if only they'd crank my page rank up a few notches...
