From the Clip Republican Senator Gordon Smith Runs Ad For Obama posted by Mike:
A fairly stunning new ad from Oregon's Republican senator Gordon Smith leaves little doubt as to which way the wind is blowing there.
In the ad, Smith, running hard away from Bush, associates himself at length and explicitly with Obama.
This has got to be the first time I've seen something like this actually happen. Gordon Smith, a republican senator from Oregon, campaigning for office by telling his constituents how well he and Obama have worked together. He even uses the Obama campaign's Gotham typeface in the ad. Cool!
I think this is pretty smart for Smith, and reminds me of the ads that Richard Moore (Democrat running for North Carolina governor) ran in his campaign, saying that he was one of the first to endorse Barack Obama. He got my vote.

Haha that's awesome. Wonder how many repubs it will piss off and if we'll see any public backlash.

Me personally... I see nothing wrong with it and I think it would be stupid to get all pissed off about it.
There is no law that says an elected official cannot assist a candidate from another party and if he feels compelled to assist Obama then go right ahead.
While it may not piss me off, he might want to think about his re-election (if he has one coming up) and how throwing his support behind Obama might effect his electability where he resides.

As a rule, I think a lot more would get done if everybody had some priority OTHER than their re-election.

I've advocated for a LONG time, short term limits for Congress and a single 6-year term for President.
Elect a new President and a New Congress every 6 years and you would end a lot of the crap happening in DC right now, and the officials would not need to focus on re-election bids.
As it stands right now for President, you get elected, spend roughly 2 years working out all the kinks and learning the ropes and then you focus on another election for the rest of your first term... IF you get re-elected you spend 2-3 years actually knowing all the ins and outs of the job then you're a lame duck and gone.
Stupid.
