I was woundering how other photographers convert there color photos to black and white. For a while now I have been using the Gorman BW Action in photoshop . Below is a shot where I used the Groman action

In Photoshop CS3 I usually just add a Black and White adjustment layer and then play around with the levels until I have a black and white conversion that I like. Before I had CS3, I used to add a Channel Mixer adjustment layer, click on Monchrome, and mess with the levels until I had a conversion I liked.

Joe's method is exactly what I do.

Joe's plus, depending on the picture I'll convert it to LAB color and mess with the Lightness channel some.

Yep, like Joe does it. Before I switched to Photoshop I used Picturepublisher, where I converted to grayscales and back to RGB and then adjusted colors.
