I thought it might be nice to get a bit more action in the photography category by starting a thread where people can post a photo from a recent day out, trip or holiday, so that we all get to see things we might not see otherwise.

Please only post one photo per reply and don't flood the conversation with lots of replies to give it a real mixed up feel. It'd be nice if you write a few words about the picture and where it was taken at the same time.

Remember, it doesn't have to be exciting or unusual, what a lot of people don't see is the every-day stuff, so if you've been out and about and taken some photos, post one here!

Ok, here's the fist one to get things going...

So near and yet so far [85/365]

It's taken on Kinder Scout in the Peak District, UK. I was there yesterday walking with a friend, the walk was about 10 miles long but it felt like hard work due to lots of snow, ice and mud and a final descent on a rocky path made even harder by end of day fatigue.

I was so pleasantly surprised to find a lot of snow - there wasn't any where I live (about 30 miles from here), or at the bottom of any of the hills and roads near the walk.

This picture was taken at the point furthest away from the start, and we were about to go up that path to the left and get in to the low clouds. Despite how it looks, it didn't feel that cold, but then I guess I dress for it to make sure it doesn't!

If anyone has got a photo from this weekend to reply with that'd be great, if not, please reply soon!

Hello from neighbouring Chesterfield! Great shot and yes, surprise there's so much snow as it's not be that cold recently (just wet, as usual). Must get out into the Peaks with my camera and try and capture some of that winter scenery myself.

This is not a great photo but it was my last trip out:

Coarse fishing

Taken along Chesterfield canal last weekend. Hadn't come across coarse fishing before; the rods are very long, reaching to the far bank. They looked awkward to handle.

Dancing!

Where I've just been involves a picture taken whilst dancing, in a dark nightclub, on the rather bad camera that comes with the Motorola Razr - hence the weird blurry effect that's going on in the shot.

And bioneural - talk about coincidence! I've got very fond memories of taking the boat down that very stretch of canal a few years back!

@bioneural - Nice - I really like the Chesterfield Canal. I walk the Worksop to Kiveton Park section sometimes and I'm planning to do the Worksop to Retford section soon. I have a selection of old pics from previous bike rides and walks. It's so nice since it was all done up.

Small world with Cas having photos of that too :) (nice baseball cap btw!)

Where I have been is on the BBC News today. Not surprising given that my office has Sky, ITN and varius other media companies parked up outside. It's all rather intimidating.

I'm glad you asked. Last night, I was at the last show on the Dresden Dolls tour.

On Saturday, I celebrated my birthday in Hollywood:

Today after work, I went and stood in line for Sprinkles cupcakes:

The one in the upper left is called "Red eye red velvet" and was free due to a Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles promo event.

I went out shooting today after a while (exams just got over) and this was the first photo I took. Great start to a 2 hour walk around Mumbai (India) {where I live}

Peroty, your shots are beautiful!

(Sorry I didn't resize, just linked it right off my blog)

I attended a reunion of a Turtle Volunteer Program. My Supervisor (the project leader) gave a presentation on the "15 years of turtle conservation work" carried out by the turtle research group.

Do we look alike?

That's my sister on the right.

I went to a local butterfly garden & wilderness area here in the city this past weekend, and it was beautiful! Very relaxing.

Thought this might be worth resurrecting...

This was taken from Derwent Edge in the Peak District, UK at the weekend when out walking. That big cloud had engulfed us for most of the morning and had just moved away from us to reveal sunshine and blue skies - it was quite odd that the snow, wind and cold had just been 'turned off' so quickly.

A change in the weather

I have just returned from a 4D3N turtle camp at a local primary school. We had a talk, and we carried out about 10 turtle-related activities, everybody promised not to eat turtle and terrapin eggs, and it was truly very enjoyable :D

With the kids

I'm going to the 3rd school tomorrow (the camp will be run in 4 schools), and I am very excited about it!
