Feelings on Hats? Other stuff too...

So the other day I was walking through a second-hand shop and I saw a fantastic, light brown fedora. It looked like it had never been worn, and it fit me pretty well so I bought it.
I am incredibly picky about my headgear. In the military I was one of the few people who still used a hat-rack, hairspray and a lighter to make my hat standup perfectly straight. When I shop for a new baseball cap my wife absolutely will not go with me. It takes me as much time to pick a hat as it takes her to buy a car. Seriously.
Anyway, I've got this fedora and I really like it but I'm too big a wimp to wear it around in public. It's this phobia of looking like a tool I guess, but it's really pissing me off.
Can you people relate to that at all... not just about hats, do you have little secrets that are your own that you won't let other people see... for me it's this fedora, what's yours?

You should wear it in public.
I want to bring hats back more into vogue!

For years I wore a fedora, in HS and college. I was fairly well known for it. Sure, people commented, but usually it was a good comment. Also, my hat got me noticed by this cute Vietnamese chick I'd been eying for a year. Went out a few times, didn't work out between us, but that alone made any negative comments/looks worth it.
To thine own self be true. Even it it means wearing an awesome fedora.
Besides, carmodyarc, you're a photographer. Isn't it standard attire?

I wear a green ball cap pretty much everywhere. I feel like I lost something if it's not on my head.
I even wear it here :)

If I ever see a hat on a bed, I'm gone.
Anyway, my head is too big for most hats.

I always wear a hat. Usually baseball caps, although I've been known to rock a fedora or two. You should totally wear the fedora out. You wouldn't look like a tool. Fedora's are back "in."

I have that feeling too. I saw this awesome fedora hat the other day and I didn't buy it because I thought I would look stupid in it.
Come to think of it, I should have bought it. Shucks for me.
That being said, I do wear another awesome cap that I found in one of those old clothes shops. It's one of those one-in-a-million perfect caps that fit the right person. Mind you, I spend most of my time in a laboratory. So you can imagine the look on my face when I found this:

I love hats! I also have a pretty big head - I mean, my graduation cap was size Large and those things are unisex!
I have a couple cute hats that I love, but I think "my thing" is probably the hoodie. A lot of my clothes, even the sleeveless tops, have hoodies. I rarely use them but I dunno - for some reason my style of dressing really screams for hoodies! :)

Wear the hat with pride. Anywhere. Everywhere. It's one of the few fashion statements left. You're right about finding them easily at second-hand stores and I add here, garage sales.

Wear it, wear it!
I have hats for different aspects of my life. I wear a straw hat that has a wide brim all around it when I garden.
I wear a pink cap when I participate in a 5k or 10k running event, which has a breast cancer logo on it.
I have a neat velvet hat that I wear in the winter, when I go out somewhere special. I have a crochet slouchy type hat that my daughter made for me for every day wear in winter, in my favorite color, purple.
I like hats...they are fun to wear!

Hats are awesome...if you feel comfortable wearing it, then do so!
And remember, most of the time, people are more worried about what you think they look like, and not what you look like.

That hat looks pretty sweet, you should totally wear it. Ryan Carson wears hats too. He's from Carsonified.com and Vitamin.

Hats give me headaches. I want to wear them, but they hurt too much. Every now and then I will wear a worn out ballcap or my knitted black beanie, but that's about it. I try to bare the uncomfortable state that I stay in, but eventually I just take it off and deal with the embrassement of hat hair the rest of the day. Headbands give me headaches too.

I feel we should bring hats back into popular culture more prominently.
Wikipedia on Hats
I think that hats are one of those things, that if you can pull off, you absolutely should. Some people just can't handle a hat, but I think most can pull off a style or two. If you pull them off well, then you should be able to have a different style for different occasions. Say, a boater while fishing or being anywhere south of the mason dixon line in the US, a fedora for the northwest, perhaps a gatsby in new england.
I'm a fan of gatsby variations myself. The problem I have is finding a quality hat to actually buy. I will occasionally run across one in a department store, but rarely with a very good fit. Does anyone have some good hat purchasing resources?

I've liked Fedora's for a while, but have never had the balls to actually wear one. To me it shows mad confidence when people wear hats like that. I say, if you bought it, wear the hell out of it. It took me a while to work up the confidence to wear the one I have on in my avatar, but now I'm used to it and love wearing the hat even IF people (think: Scrivs) think I look like an old jazz player. lol
So make the jump and wear it with pride.

You say that like looking like an old jazz player is a bad thing. I'd say that is pimp in every good sense that word has.
