There goes my only current reason to get a PS3. When I finally take the plunge this holiday season, as of now, squarely looking at the 360.

» Stressed Americans Leave 460 Million Vacation Days Unused  ...  Last Reply: 4 months ago by rileycentral.

I never have the time really. My boss always reminds me to schedule time off. Well, that's great, but there's never an opening in the job schedule for me to take more than 2-3 days off. I take a few long weekends, but never have taken one of those things called a vacation.

I usually wait about a week to see if there are any conflicts with important plugins, but I usually do upgrade and plan to this time as well. I like the sound of smooth as glass.

My list is out of date. It's been like 3 years since I've seen a Maxim or watched TV, so I'm not that up on my fantasy babes anymore. Seeing Transformers was the last update to the babe list and that was like last year?

Mrs. Schloss, 4th grade, during one of our free periods I must have been yammering about something. She walks to where I'm sitting and gives me a folder and a pack of paper and then told me to start writing my stories down. Maybe it was just a trick to get me to stop being so loud, but it was one of those influential moments in my life.

» Red Wine or White Wine?  ...  Last Reply: 6 months ago by shadowsun7.

I'm one of those weirdos who hates wine with food. People say it's the wine enhancing the food...me I think it's the wine making the food taste funny.

I prefer white wine. The chill factor.

I caught some episodes on Hulu. I dug it, but I'm not much of a TV person so haven't watched that much of it. Still, seems like a winner.

» The Diet Coke Myth  ...  Last Reply: 6 months ago by Kamigoroshi.

I've been drinking Diet Coke so long that regular Coke tastes odd to me. But, once in a while I do pig out and get the Diet Coke, but that's just because that's what I'm used to rather than me thinking I'm saving me some calories or "buying" a dessert since I'm cutting back with the Diet Coke. It's what I normally drink, whether I'm eating normal or being a pig.

» Are you really satisfied?  ...  Last Reply: 6 months ago by maritza.

I'm satisfied. There's some things I wish I could do and stuff I'm striving for, but I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

What would make me real happy though is if my best friend could get his life in order. Now before you get the wrong impression, this best friend has been sleeping on my couch for almost two months and doesn't pick up after himself or even volunteer to take the trash out. He's got it for as long as he needs it, but I'd like my apartment back.

If I like the blogger and it's related to my blog topic (anime stuff) I put it in. The blogroll is on a separate page, so there's less need to be conscious of space.

Maybe if my blog topic were more serious, I'd be more ruthless with the blogroll, but eh, I just go with what I like.

For photo touch-ups and edits it didn't take long at all. Just practice really. For drawing, I still can't do it and I've been using a tablet for 2 years. Now that they've unleashed a 12" Cintiq, I'm looking at that, maybe, I still like graphite, paper, and a kneadable eraser.

Collecting stuff is a lot more fun when you can show it off to people who are into it. My real life friends aren't into my collecting hobby, so it's no fun showing off a new toy to them. Blogs are such a huge boost to so many niche hobbies.

» Weird Spikes In RSS Subscibers  ...  Last Reply: 9 months ago by themikehaynes.

Feedburner stats for Feb 20th are incomplete. From their forum it seems the Google reader numbers might not have been included or something along those lines. They mentioned that the reporting of those figures would be restored on Friday. Something like this happens every couple of months with Feedburner, where it looks like half of your subscribers unsubscribed only to be a glitch of some kind.

Subscriber count is more of a subscriber estimate. There's a lot of reasons why it's not a hard count.

Photography, it's about the subject, making sure they come across. I don't consider it anything more than a means to convey subject. The photographer is really only there to decide how to go about it.

» What is your most viewed Flickr photo?  ...  Last Reply: 3 months ago by pelf.

Are the counts in Stats any different from the view count I've always gotten? I just activated the stats thing now and it says it will take a day, so I don't know if there is a difference.

Anyway, according to the old fashioned way, the popular section under Your Photos, the one with the most views is Kasumi Wonders with 4,088 views:

Kasumi Wonders

I'm sure it's because of the 1:6 scale Vespa, plus Kasumi is from the DOA video games.

My Flickr account is not diverse. I limit that one to anime related things, mostly of figures/statues.

» Your sidebar: Break it down  ...  Last Reply: 7 months ago by Scrivs.

I like the search box, archive, category combo tab thing. That solves so many space problems.

» Blogging tips please  ...  Last Reply: 9 months ago by costanzo.

Unless you're lucky, it takes a little time and effort to get an audience. Definitely commenting on other blogs is a start, particularly if your participation is good...that's probably where you'll get your first boost in readers. Search engine traffic comes a little later after you've built up an archive and links to and from other blogs.

As far as subject matter goes, that largely depends on your own goals with your blog and the type of audience you want to build.

» Your sidebar: Break it down  ...  Last Reply: 7 months ago by Scrivs.

I recently changed to a simpler theme so had to cut some stuff from my sidebar to what I thought was most important.

1. Page Navigation
2. RSS Subscription
3. Category List
4. Tag Cloud (Most used tags)
5. Most Recent Comments

Some of the things that I had in the sidebar from the previous theme I put on a separate page or dropped entirely and it's still kind of a long sidebar (though that's partly due to the theme's formatting). I put the Search, Category List, Monthly Archive, and full Tag Cloud into an Archive Page. I also moved links to a Links page. I almost cut the Category list from the sidebar since it was also in the Archive Page, but a couple of the category links get used a quite a bit so I left them in the sidebar.

The only thing I wish I had room for in the theme were the recent posts feeds from friend blogs. I don't think they actually drove much traffic to those friend sites, but I think they help them as far as search engines go, so I feel a bit wrong about it.

I like the recent comments widget. When I visit other blogs that have this I use it to know if anything has been added to a conversation since I last visited.

» Font Suggestions for Dark Backgrounds  ...  Last Reply: 10 months ago by dbarnett.

To me, for the main text font, I find that the text size is set too small and that the font color contrasts too much with the background. Cutting down the contrast between the background and the font will help improve the readability (but don't go too far as too little contrast is hard to read also).

» My favourite photo from 2007  ...  Last Reply: 9 months ago by Cas.

I agree with you Publicenergy, that a lot of times the photos I liked best aren't the ones that get the most attention from others.

Most of my photos are related to my figurine collecting hobby. I'm usually partial to the ones I've taken most recently (probably because of the new toy factor), so here's my favorite from December:

Death Sensei 01

I liked it because the diorama that I made for the picture turned out better than I thought it would, though I wish I'd covered the tree bases with fake snow.

» What digital SLR camera to get?  ...  Last Reply: 11 months ago by Sara.

I'd consider checking out reviews for the Olympus Evolt-510. I own the previous model the Evolt 500 and will get the 510 as a birthday present to myself in a couple of months. If you're looking to get into macro, Olympus presents a great value and quality product. Their 35mm macro is only about $200 USD and is a very good lens capable of 1:1 magnification (they also have a 50mm macro). The camera also feels great in my hands.

If you know your budget means kit lenses for a while, Olympus is generally considered to have the best quality kit lenses.

Olympus presents a great value and useful features for this end of the DSLR market. Canon and Nikon also offer excellent products, but do yourself a favor and seriously consider the Olympus as well.

» Does anyone play Dungeons and Dragons anymore?  ...  Last Reply: 11 months ago by hthth.

I DM a group. We're all out of school and busy, so we don't do all day or all night game sessions, but every Sunday night we play for about three hours. It's great because we can still keep our weekends and only miss out on Sunday football, which only matters once or twice a year anyway. We've been playing since the mid nineties.

We play D&D 3.5. Versus the older editions 3.5 has a more options for the players and it feels like it gives players a little more say in the game than AD&D did. Those are the best things about 3.5 (4th edition is set to come out next year). Since 3.5 is a bit more mechanically rich and mechanically descriptive, preparing stats for a game can be very time consuming if you don't have your own stockpile from DMing for a while and even then it can take a long time to properly stat an adversary. The mechanical richness makes it harder to wing stats without making it seem like you're cheating, which when you're pressed for time is sometimes unavoidable.

There are other things about 3.5 that 4th will fix, but I for one feel 3.5 is a huge improvement over AD&D and hopefully 4th will solve the time consuming portions of 3.5 while keeping what made it great. I've been the DM for most of my time spent tabletop gaming and I definitely feel that 3.5 has a different mindset than the older versions of the game and it's for the better, at least for my group. We like crunchy bits, tactics, and strategy in our RPG combat to go along with hamming it up with the townsfolk. Groups that don't like that and prefer more of a novel simulator in their games, rather than a game in their games, will probably find 3.5 spends too much time in combat.

At the end of the day it's about rolling dice and cracking some jokes.
