I mean... :)
Hey I think I'll be able to catch it. This is gonna be sweet.
Tyme our society is growing more complex and competitive with each passing day. I wouldn't be surprised if our kids are doing this at age 10.
White Castle and Grandma's Boy are def on my top ten.
I do like sophisticate movies, really but every once in a while I wanna watch something that makes me laugh. My nominations:
- Blades of Glory
- Old School
I believe that Obama wants to combat voter fraud and enforce voters rights. There has already been a push for this but I imagine that a president like Obama might have the integrity to push for electoral college reform.
The problem with the current electoral college is that the election results do not represent the absolute amount of votes cast.
The electoral college is out of date. If Obama is elected, he will probably push for election reform.
So if we call what's next web 3.0 are we recognizing that web 2.0 was a bit of a mistake?
All I am saying is that you force change/ or anything on a kid then sometimes that effect can sometimes backfire on you. Yes she will eventually need to learn how to look dapper but it is probably better for the well-being of the child to figure that sorta stuff out on their own.
Try to force something on them and you might end up with a kid who entered college with the wrong idea and end up as a senior with no career path or worse yet a job that he or she hates.
That said good luck kid.
I always thought that Trillian was too hard to use and if I remember correctly it sorta messes up your system. If Trillian was the only piece of software out there I would use it but it is not so I use Pidgin.
Pidgin is a terrific piece of software. Supports multiple IM protocols and is extremely light weight. Or you can use the traditional AIM client. I don't recommend Trillian.
Here's my take. Parents are pretty darn smart. They've been on this planet longer than we have. Chances are that they have endured the same things that you are going through. They are going to be right 90% of the time factually.
However the right answer does not mean anything if they aren't giving you the chance to make mistakes for yourself. Ironically parents who try to isolate their kids from such hardships unintentionally passing on their own traits to their own kids.
It's kind of fucked up because the parents really do have the right answers but because of the parents own fears and they are probably not giving their children the adequate experience they need to break free from the cycle.
....ah kid don't worry about it too much. RightOn...give the kid a break. The person in question is fourteen and still has a lot of time. Take one from the Buddha: Life is not about the end destination but rather the trip itself. Preoccupation is never a good thing.
"friends about who dresses the coolest and who is the cutest"
that is probably it. and that is not to say that their aren't any lame people on facebook but the answer to the question is probably simpler than we think.
I was actually listening to the Economist Podcast and one of the subjects that came up was Facebook and social networks. The host of the show equivocated social awkwardness of body language to the increase of technologies that allow us to communicate from a distance.

Listen to it I think it's cool.
RightOn: I was reading through some of your responses and that really sucks. That sorta situation reminds me of where in which there were two people in our class who made a lot of noise and always asked ridiculous questions.
They ended up doing very well in the class. So there in lies the question: what is knowledge? It's something that I wonder about. I mean as Harry Potter said, fighting the dark arts isn't all about memorization and facts, it is about having the guts to pull those awesome things off.
I clipped an article a while back that attempts to explain how our "crappy" education system can support such an advanced economy.
Samuelson argues that it is our ability to give second chances to folks who didn't do so well in high school. Pretty cool if you ask me.
How did Perez Hilton start off anyway? I was under the impression that he did not start off purely on the web but I guess I was wrong.
I still have to play this shit. Someday I'll buy an Xbox 360 someday....
Oh and the younger generation is always going down hill.
I like Mike's answer.
Lol david, what I meant to say was that Studio 60 wasn't a very funny show. It's ironic if you think about it. TV shows have to be entertaining as well.
Has anyone watched this before? Funny as shit and the reason why Studio 60 was never really that much of a success.
Ha I took one art class and I remember the concept of space.
I would honestly just like the meta data so I could go get the song later.
Are you kidding? You can learn so much stuff from TV. Yes TV News is generally biased but TV sitcoms are actually quite educating at times. The people who write TV shows are pretty smart and more often than not hilarious.
Of course, you shouldn't base your life off them but I usually try not to be cynical. Well that is except for news media. Those guys are pretty biased. Stick to NPR or USA Today.
hey i just had a brain fart and something just came to mind. would it be possible to add more profile information to the profile...like facebook of course...fav music and fav tv shows...except! what if you clicked on the fav music part of your profile and it lead you to a discussion on music.
say you imput that you like the Beatles and the "music" category heading lead you to the 9rules music notes section/community? that would be super
Those who can't do...
Let's do something fun and simple. Post a youtube video of an awesome song that you like and then do a small write up on why you like it.
I like the "New Pornographer's" "The Laws Have Changed". It's a pretty cool music video/song. First: The New Pornographers? Awesome name for a band. Second the song just sounds cool. Third the video actually makes some sense if you can listen to the lyrics.
"What will be revealed today? When we peer into the great unknown." Great stuff.
Actually, peroty in attack of AOL, I think they acquired the technology for AIM through ICQ. So I wouldn't give AOL all the credit there.
Tyme: Back in the day AOL was one of the few ISP's out there so it was easy for them to make a profit If you consider that AOL was able to charge $25 a month for dial up service. That business model goes out the window when local cable companies start to provide broadband internet.
At this point a lot of technical people don't like AOL cause it's kind of slow and tech support sucks but that's because they're big. People complain about poor tech support so they hire more and more people to cover the lines. This raises costs.
Flash forward the ISP business model doesn't work out so hot so they have to start cutting back cause they want to be a web only comp. Tyme you talk about how essential it is to have a small team on 9rules/web only comp. AOL lays off 700 workers at their call center. This makes perfect business sense. If you're not going to be an ISP (google does not provide free telephone customer support) cutting those technical support jobs makes perfect sense. I mean no one likes lay offs but the purchase of weblogs inc is a good future investment towards their future.
Not giving sponsorships: probably because they have less money than before. it's embarrassing but, I mean they don't have the money.
The privacy. "They showed complete disregard for people's privacy." You make it sound like they did it on purpose. Sounds like they just messed up big time. If I remember correctly, they leaked a bunch of search data from their search engine.m
Advertising model not working? You said it yourself that they made $540 million. a 13 percent increase. the article made it sound like their "ad network" wasn't doing so well cause outside companies were doing in house ads but that AOL's own site ads weren't doing so shabby.
I saw a note early about AOL's new TV ad and I got to thinking about hating other companies. A girl in my class refused to buy an iPod because she didn't like Apple as a company.
People obviously, due to the note, don't like AOL because of the invasive software and shady service they delivered during the old days but I wrote a post on AOL as it is now and I still gotta wonder why people hate it despite the turn around.
And I gotta admit that as nerdy kids we made fun of Macs but we were kids. I mean I guess I hate companies that pollute and have sweatshops but unless you're a direct competitor with that company why the hate? The world needs love.
A combination of tag clouds and standard archives works well for me. If readers really like your blog then they will do what they can to read it.
Don't taze me bro!
Okay here's a good example. Skip around to 6:00 and you'll see what I'm talking about.
BTW if you guys have a chance to see Honey and Clover, it's a great show.
Yeah Scrivs, the ones you're talking about seem to be the exception to the rule. Cowboy Bebop/GITS was awesome.
Ozone42: yeah i suppose that anime is just like any other plot device but my point is that the main character for some reason or another never seems to "get there". or never knows how to tell the story from their point of view
Sorry I know I'm being vague.
Oh yeah that's right in the first movie they have to get nude to cloak.
This is one of my favorite shows. Watch it now.

I can honestly say that there would be less low brow humor.
