Man, what a fantastic game! I just finished it after a good 18-20 hours. Did lots of exploring and really took my time and enjoyed it. There's actually 3 endings and I was a bad man - harvested most of the Little Sisters, so I didn't get a very satisfying ending. But now I'm going to play it through again on hard and save all the Little Sisters.

Finally something to play on PS3 - Warhawk

Sony Community — Posted: Sep. 1, 2007  ...   Last By: cavemonkey50 @ 1 year ago

Any PS3 owners rocking Warhawk? I picked it up on release day, but haven't really had a chance to play it much until this afternoon.

After a couple consecutive hours, I'm really stoked on it. All sorts of fun and the games are fast-paced and non-stop action from the get-go. They're over relatively quickly too, which is actually a good thing. I hate when rounds go on forever.

I'm really surprised how well everything is balanced. Considering when you spawn you have nothing but a handgun and a knife, but can get into everything from a jeep to a tank, to a Warhawk, to different kinds of turrets. The balance is perfect and no one can hold their advantage infinitely.

This is the first game that's actually made getting a "next gen" console even remotely enticing.

I declare you officially insane.

It was released for Xbox 360 and PC yesterday, and yes, it's a pretty fantastic game. The demo, as great as it was, barely scraped the surface.

» Are They As Good As Each Other?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by MattBrett.

I own all 3 - just got a PS3 the other night after both my 360s died. Despite its hardware problems, the Xbox 360 is still my favourite by a long shot. The PS3 has some good games on the horizon, but not for months or even until 2008.

I've pretty much given up on the Wii. The visuals are hideous - so much so that I can't stand to look at it on my HDTV and moved it to an old CRT in the bedroom. My wife and daughter play games like Mario Party 8 and Big Brian Academy, but it doesn't see all that much action. Both my girls put more time into the Xbox 360.

It's all a matter of personal preference and what kind of gaming you want to do. But if you can only get one, I would recommend holding out for an Xbox 360 with the new 65nm chip. They've apparently solved the fatal errors, but it'll probably be a couple, to a few months until we see those on shelves.

» 10 (+2) reasons to get a Playstation 3  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by MattBrett.

@BinaryMoon: I wouldn't say that hardware doesn't matter. I've owned a Wii for about 4 months and it hardly ever gets used.

I have a wife and daughter that love gaming, but both spend more time with the Xbox 360 than the Wii. I know from their perspective, it's about the games and the lack of at this point.

But from my stand point, I have a really hard time with the dated graphics, lack of widescreen support and mediocre controls. So much so, that I picked up Resident Evil 4 for the Wii this past week and couldn't play it on my HDTV for more than 20 minutes. I moved it upstairs where we have a 27" Sony Trinitron in the bedroom and played it for a couple hours straight. But what happens when we get a bigger HDTV for the living room and our current one goes to the bedroom? In my eyes, the Wii is decent in the short term, but I highly doubt it will have a 4-5 year lifespan that console normally have.

The PS3 on the other hand - while still not worth shelling out coin for in my opinion, it will get there eventually.

The learning curve was too steep for me. Over an hour of tutorials to learn the basics is more than I'm willing to put in - but I actually did, and I somewhat enjoyed it once I got to the fourth one. Played a few games and that was it. Just too much involved for me, and I hate seeing stupid trolls and dwarfs in shooters.

It'll probably be forgotten within a couple months, with the exception of the few that seem to be really into it. There are just too many other great games being released for one like this to survive. Especially once Half-Life 2 Episode 2 ships with Team Fortress 2. That will be some class based shooter goodness right there.

I'm not even going to get into this discussion, but I wanted to point out an article I just came across over at GameSpot - 10 Things to Make the Playstation 3 Worth Buying.

I hardly consider a list of games where most are multi-platform viable reasons for spending a ton on a console that is riddled with holes.

» Why Can't They Just list 1 machine Co-op?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by trout_wader.

It's true, they should elaborate a bit more on the multiplayer capabilities. Especially now that some games ship with only MP over Xbox Live, or as you pointed out, co-op over Live.

I find myself digging through forums to find out how I can play a game with my friends before I pick it up, which is a bit of an annoyance.

It's kind of funny how the tables are starting to turn and co-op over Live is now becoming the standard versus local co-op. But hey, no complaints from this guy. Playing co-op with a friend on the other side of the Country is the best shit ever.

» I still love playing NFS Most Wanted  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by matthewpaver.

They're have definitely been times I wish I hadn't traded in Most Wanted, even though I own Carbon. So I'm not surprised you're still playing it. It's definitely a fun game. I never completed it as I found the constant bounty increasing to be ridiculously tedious. Especially when it gets to the point where you have to do like 15-20 minute pursuits just to achieve the goals you need.

Carbon has it's own tedious ends, though. Pursuits aren't required to progress through the campaign, they just happen randomly during events or in free roam. But you're forced to re-do events constantly in order to retain the events you've already taken over. Which is a cheese way of extending the career, if you ask me. I had to do the same Sprint 4 times in one sitting just the other day.

I like the environments a lot better in Most Wanted. The country roads and 8 lane highways are super fun. You can go forever on some of them. Carbon takes place entirely at night, which I hated about the Underground series.

» I suck at Gears of War (online)  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by themediasoldier.

Just played for about 2 hours and got to try out some of the tips and techniques mentioned above. I must had, I had a total blast! Blew the shit out of enough dudes - needless to say, totally got a grasp on the shotgun now. I played Warzone the entire time, which I think I'm liking best at this point. Unfortunately, I was playing Player matches so I could have a couple friends in the game, but I'll have to get some Ranked matches going in order to grab some achievements.

Thanks again to all that contributed above. Definitely been a big help.

Oh nice, good to hear it's not just me.

Thanks for the tips Teej. I'll add you to my friends list in a sec. Gamertag is PlainBlack, BTW.

I just played a couple games and wanted to kill half the people playing. All my friends that were online and playing were in packed games, so I had to go public and got stuck with a couple whiny babies who cried every time a teammate got wasted. Half the reason I hardly play online is dealing with idiots. Voice is great and all, but I hate (hate hate!) asshat kids.

I suck at Gears of War (online)

PC Community — Posted: Feb. 16, 2007  ...   Last By: themediasoldier @ 1 year ago

I picked up GOW the day it was released and have since played the single player campaign through at least 6 or 7 times. One of those times on Insane, once on Casual (first time by myself) and the rest on Hardcore.

I've been tied up with other games over the past couple months and never really had a good chance to get into the multiplayer end of GOW. The other night I fired it up and got totally rocked. Seriously, I was like last place until the 10th round when I dropped 2 guys and killed one and actually scored some points. Even then, I believe I was around 120 points while everyone else was pushing 400 or above.

Needless to say, I have to get playing this shit! But I was surprised how bad I sucked online even after playing the single player campaign so many times through. The gameplay really is that much different. At least I didn't hear any mad young kids in my ear. That would have just been embarrassing. ;)

Might be a while before I get my Gears of War (or any other game that just came out) review online, actually. I'm having a tough time coping! I don't want to just blast through them all, as there's so many great games that just came out.

But so far, Gears of War is bloody incredible. The new Tony Hawk P8 is also quite radtastic. I'll be reviewing NFS Carbon and Splinter Cell DA at some point as well. Oh, and Call of Duty 3. See what I'm saying? Too many great games at one time!

Oh man, I haven't got anywhere near100+. I'm pretty sure my highest was 60 something. But then again, I might have played it 5 or 6 times, tops.

» PS3, Worth The Money?!??!  ...  Last Reply: 2 years ago by hungtruong.

I guess it'd be worth it for the Blu-Ray drive. But I'm gonna let HD-DVD and Blu-Ray battle it out before I drop any money on either of them.

In any case, Sony still needs to prove themselves as far as I'm concerned. They haven't showed us shit and we're only a few months away from launch.

It seems every other day another rumour of them ripping Nintendo or MS surfaces in regards to a new "feature" of the PS3.

The Xbox 360 has really done a 360 since it's been released and it's one hell of a gaming system now. With the camera, wireless racing wheel, wireless headset and HD-DVD drive coming this winter, along with the arsenal of amazing games... I don't even think I'm gonna bother with the PS3 or the Wii for that matter, for some time to come.

» Game Soundtracks  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by ldragon.

I'm not too into the old school soundtracks myself. But I listen to at least a couple game soundtracks a day while I'm working. I'm more into the huge epic, orchestral stuff. To name a few...

Black
Call of Duty (1 and 2 are both great)
The Elder Scrolls III and IV
Fable
Guild Wars, Guild Wars Factions
Kameo
Medal of Honor (all of them)
Mercenaries
Perfect Dark Zero
Prey
Rome: Total War
Secret Weapons Over Normandy
Shadow of the Collosus
World of Warcraft

And for you old schools fans - you need to check this out if you haven't already.

Logitech is a safe bet. I've tried other brands over the years, but always gone back to Logitech. Stay away from the Xbox 360 controller for Windows. Not worth the time and effort to get it up and running.

I'll second Gears of War. Also, Forza Motorsport 2 (no date yet, but expected Q4 of 2006), Half-Life 2 along with all the goodies (TF2, Portal, etc.) for Xbox 360, Call of Duty 3, Brothers in Arms 3, Lost Planet, Splinter Cell Double Agent, and as Kyle mentioned, Spore and the new Tony Hawk.
