Everybody is talking a 3G iphone, but I seriously don't think apple is releasing one anytime soon if they ever go with 3G, I think edge is working fine for them and i believe they are going to stick to it at least for the next couple years.
The only problem with that is Apple has no choice but to release a 3G iPhone if they expect to get in to certain markets. For example, all mobile providers are Japan have 3G networks. If Apple sticks with Edge then they will never enter the Japanese market, a highly unlikely prospect methinks.
I believe, but am not completely certain, the same can be said for some European markets.
I suspect Apple is working on, and will release later this year, an iPhone which supports 3G. This is not to say that such a device will be available in the U.S., but that one will be made available.
Hopefully that somewhere turns out to be Japan because I sure would like me an iPhone!
Very nice idea. How long do you envision before the Chawlk is fully-functional?
I just hope that since you're breaking the notes functionality out to a completely separate site that users do not try and wh0re for points, and act as if points are their sole mission in life. Although, if the wh0re is providing quality answers that is one thing, but wh0ring for the sake of wh0ring will completely suck.
I have to agree with Scrivs. I've heard this before, and even have encountered it at times myself.
Being supportive of his request is probably the best thing you can do. There should be no reason to doubt your man, unless of course you have been given a real reason to do so.
My favorite feature is, by far, the new look for FF3 on OSX. Finally a theme which actually matches the OS!
My memory.... it does nothing!
I feel ya on that one - try being an old bastard like me, and see what old age does to the memory!
I'm getting ready to install a test bed of Chyrp and am curious if anyone else has given this a test drive?
I just migrated my tumblelog from Tumblr to a Chyrp installation. So far I am much more pleased with Chyrp than Tumblr, although because of Tumblr's maturity it does have additional features which I would like to see get integrated in to Chyrp at some point. Overall, I am happier on Chyrp, especially now that I finished porting my Wordpress theme to Chryp!
I'd like to see if this is a possible WordPress alternative for my own personal site. I'm in the need of new technology for clients and this seems like one simpler form of tool for managing blog content.
I am currently evaluating this as well. I expect to use Chyrp for a substantially longer period of time before determining if it is viable to switch away from Wordpress. While I adore Chyrp, Wordpress is far more mature, stable and extensible at this juncture. But I am definitely giving Chyrp a good look.
I just checked it out earlier today and it looked interesting. It's from our friend Alex who didn't even post in 9rules to tell us it was live. No love!
Mike: Sure he did; it's how I found out about Chyrp. He posted about it right here. You even posted in that thread. ;-)
Pats D lost the game for them.
No doubt about that. I still wonder why there was only single coverage on Plaxico on the play that lead to the TD. The CB blew the coverage and there was nobody else there to assist with guarding the Giants' best receiver. I find that quite odd.
That was a great game. I never imagined the Super Bowl being so exciting as they are mostly one-sided ass-whoopings. This year was great to watch, especially the final 5 minutes of the game.
It is interesting to see how Eli has gone from virtually zero to definite hero. Most of the Giants losses this year could be attributed to his bad decision making. He somehow matured quite rapidly towards the end of the season and took that to the playoff, then the Super Bowl. Quite an interesting growth spurt he, and the Giants, had there at the end.
Congrats to the Giants. The definitely deserved to win!
Doomed to fail methinks. In the history of large acquisitions of this nature, has any quantitative good come from similar mergers? I can not think of a single one that has turned out for the better after the merger took place.
I'm really hoping the iPhone makes its debut in Japan so I can pick one up. Other than that there really is nothing else that truly excites or inspires me.
The Giants played the Pats really well a few weeks back, so this is no gimme. Eli has piqued, or so it would seem, at just the right time.
If I were to venture a guess I would say Pats over the Giants by a field goal.
Because they want to piss you off by annoying you to no end.
5. They're refunding all the money taken.
DreamHost announced their intent to refund those who were erroneously charged, but I have yet to see the $800 I was charged be credited back to my credit card.
The process should be pretty damn instantaneous methinks! The refund should show up just as quick as the charge. Yet, that does not appear to be the case ...
I received the same email and responded immediately with WTFBBQ y0!?!? No answer yet. I just re-upped my account in November but am really soured by the extra $800 they charged me for absolutely nothing.
This is unacceptable for me and I am seriously considering moving my hosting away from DH entirely.
Probably one of the lamest "pranks" ever pulled. Hands down.
It is not as if bloggers are having enough trouble being taken seriously already. Now Gizmodo, probably the second most popular electronics blog, pulls a stunt like this only to create a setback for all bloggers. I fear the mainstream media will just use Gizmodo's actions to say such childish actions are representative of all bloggers, making it that much more difficult for the rest of the blogging world to be taken seriously.
Shame on Gizmodo, Nick Denton and Gawker Media for screwing it up for the rest of "us."
I use Google Reader but I have one serious problem with it - I cannot pull new feeds when I want to. It seems to go on Google's cycle and I cannot control it. There are times when I know there are new articles on a site, I hit "refresh" and I cannot get them. I also do not like it displays the time Google pulled the feed not when the article was written.
That is the biggest drawback I have with Google Reader. The news always seems to be a lot later than any other web-based feed reader. Polling frequency is definitely behind any desktop feed reader, since frequency is generally very configurable.
The "refresh" button in Google Reader will not force a poll, pulling in new items. Unfortunately, all that particular function does is refresh the reading pane.
What feed reader do you use to perform the majority of your feed reading? Do you prefer web-based feed readers over desktop applications, or vice-versa?
Back in the day, I started out with Bloglines. I quickly realized Bloglines was severely lacking many of the features I desired in a feed reader and ultimately turned to FeedLounge. Initially, I was quite pleased with FeedLounge and it's feature set. However, after the service started to grow, the site became unresponsive and error prone.
During the time FeedLounge became riddled with problems I found a little-known feed reader called NewsHutch. I really adored NewsHutch; it was probably the most ideal feed reader I had ever come across up to that point, either desktop or web-based. In the midst of my using NewsHutch, an updated version of Google Reader was released. The feature set released was basically what we, for the most part, see today.
Like with FeedLounge, NewsHutch became unresponsive and problematic. Seeing that Google Reader offered a very similar user experience, I started using the service and have yet to look back. Of course, throughout the years I have played with various feed readers for exceptionally short periods of time, only to always come back to the main reader I was using at the time.
I even fooled around with desktop readers, though mainly on my Mac as opposed to my Windows workstation. Although FeedDemon is a decent application these days, I've never really been enamored with the features. On the Mac I tried to fall in love with NetNewsWire only to realize it is not what I want, besides the fact that the interface was pretty horrible until recently.
Newsfire, by and large, has been the feed reader I've used the most on my Mac, though without a river-of-news option I never really got in to using for more than a few days at one time. It is extremely difficult to get the developer to implement the smallest of features, much less adding a huge feature requiring a complete interface modification.
NewsLife and Vienna, although decent applications, never really were able to capture my heart. Something is missing from both and although I respect the work put in to them, I've not been able to switch to them for any more than testing purposes.
So now that I've spilled my life story on feed reading, what about you? Which feed reader do you use and why? Prefer web-based or an RSS reader application?
That is a pretty interesting find. I've long been leary of these vote counting machines, especially those made by Diebold and ES&S.
But, even though Clinton won a larger percentage of the votes, by a very small margin, she and Obama took the same number of delegates. So, this is not as big a win as it might appear.
Steelers vs. Redskins
Sucky for this prediction. Both the Steelers and the Redskins were defeated today.
Of all the GTD-like applications on OSX, I find Things to operate much cleaner, clearer and present a better listing of the information I need. The interface is just about as flawless as I can imagine, allowing me to get to the information I need quickly and efficiently. This is not to say OmniFocus or iGTD are bad applications, just that I seem to work better with Things compared to the others.
Just my $0.02.
Glad to see Obama won and am even pleasantly more surprised to see Giuliani as a cellar-dweller. I half expected Paul to be in the position he is in but at the same time expected him to garner a slightly larger percentage of the vote. Definitely going to be interesting to see how things play out here.
Like I said, I am glad Giuliani received such a lackluster percentage of the votes. I really despise his platform, running under the assumption that since he was mayor of NYC during 911 that somehow entitles him to being a more viable presidential candidate than anyone else.
On an interesting note, I find the Wikipedia Iowa Caucus page to be an intriguing read. Specifically, the Past Winners section is quite provocative, especially when you start to consider how past winners have come to represent their party during the general election. Neat stuff methinks.
This is a toughie but I'm thinking either the Pats or the Jags. Definitely going to stay in the AFC methinks. No team in the NFC is capable of winning the big game methinks.
That turned out to be a really good game methinks. Definitely was enjoyable to watch. The Giants finally showed some heart.
Certainly no blowout thus far. I doubt many people expected the Giants to play as well as they have in the first half.
The Patriots have an opportunity to wrap up the first 16-0 season in NFL history this Saturday night as the play the Giants in New York. Any predictions on the outcome of the Patriots -vs- Giants game?
No matter what, it will be interesting to watch. I just hope I can figure out where and how to watch the game online since it is not being broadcast anywhere in Japan. I could head to work to watch but who wants to go to work on the weekend, just to watch a little football?
On to my prediction. I think the Patriots will beat the Giants but it will be a close game: Pats, 24-21.
Predictions?
I'll take a look as time permits. I am definitely intrigued by the basic premise of chyrp. Whatever happens, good luck!
Christmas is almost over here. Only about 6 hours left and then it be back to the daily grind.
Just make sure you do a round of backups beforehand. No matter how stable something is you never know what could potentially go wrong.
That is the best advice around!
I have had no problems with Leopard thus far, and I've been using it since the day it was released. Definitely good stuff methinks!
What I really want to know is that when I switch to Leopard I will not run into any of the trouble that popped up back in October. Has there been significant system updates? Will my files switch over correctly (I am going from tiger to leopard)?
Certainly YMMV, but *I* have had no problems to speak of. Definitely have not experienced the horror stories that I've read. I hope and expect things to stay that way too!
Good luck. OSX r0x0rs!
I get it but I just do not find it all that entertaining. People just seem to have this thing about cat pictures that gets them all chummy inside.
I would love to get thousands of comments a day. Because I do not have the time to spend on my site that such a large number of comments requires, I only have a meager audience. I doubt most of the blogs here get thousands of comments a day.
Congrats on the new milestone. May the future grant you thousands of comments a day at some point! :-)
I dunno how much action it will have because the most recent trailer looks more story and character-development-like than action oriented. Nonetheless, I am pretty intrigued and will probably end up checking it out when released.
Prediction: Pats lose to the Dolphins, 20-17.
It's only fitting.
I've been thinking about a similar fate. Sure would be an ironic twist to the conquest.
Although, I really think I would rather see the Pats go undefeated. If, for no other reason than to not have to hear the 72 'Fins whining every year a team starts the season undefeated.
And yes I'm definitely looking forward to it. Kind of like 28 Days Later but with a black guy.
rrrrrrrofl. Had not thought of it that way!
I'm definitely looking forward to the movie. The more recent full-length trailers make the movie look pretty interesting.
Will Smith visited this area of Japan early last week. I did not get a chance to see him, but a lot of folks I work with were able to meet him and shake his hand. Seems like he is a fairly down-to-earth kinda guy.
Good god, the Patriots handled the Steelers like they were a Junior-Varsity team! I did not expect such an ass-whooping by the Pats.
Who knows, maybe they are as good as everyone seems to think they are!

Same here as well. The form's action is still apparently set to 9rules.
