I love the wallpapers over at Veer.
I love the wallpapers over at Veer.
Yeah, had I not been looking at them side-by-side I probably wouldn't think rip, but it's definitely a little *too* inspired.
I used to have a fairly good sized blogroll, but on my latest redesign (granted, not nearly finished yet), I haven't put one up at all. Nor have I put up a list of archives or categories for my own stuff.
I had the same reasoning for all of them--Most people don't really read them or dare I say even care.
Haven't created a mixtape myself, but played around with the site some and listened to others'.
I find it fascinating, because as I just finished writing about over here, I doubt the site will be able to last too long before lawsuits hit. However, if the creators (whoever they may be) play it right, I really don't think it matters as far as their success is concerned. After all the publicity Muxtape just got, they're pretty much set as far as having an audience to launch something else for. A lawsuit (as long as it doesn't actually get to court and/or they end up paying much) would probably even help that cause some.
Takes guts for sure.
elliotswan.com - The web dev blog
accidentalprocrastination.com - personal blog, hasn't been touched on much lately
shweetness.com - was going to do a podcast a couple years ago, scheduling conflicts stopped it from completely going live. It may come back sometime.
stalkmy.com - thought it was cool
shootourselfwith.us - self-portrait site, coming sometime
uppervent.com - used to be mostly a forum, but kept getting hacked and after 2-3 times I never got around to putting it back up again
manofpink.com - almost was a gallery based on manly uses of the color pink
elliotswandesigns.com (used to redirect to my portfolio...pretty sure i still own it...)
That's somewhat depressing to look at...Seems I have way more ideas than I actually finish.
Jeff Croft has always inspired me with his constant need to step outside the box.
However, nowadays most of my inspiration doesn't come from big designers so to speak, but rather creatives and innovative groups of people. The Vimeo guys (even just stuff like jake and amir), Jakob Lodwick (ex Vimeo guy), SkinnyCorp (Threadless guys), etc.
I think skinnyCorp is a pretty awesome name, as well as Connected Ventures.
For me, it adds to my content. Since I focus on design, web development, technology, etc., when I'm messing around with the inner workings of my blog it's giving me things to write about.
This was taken in a tunnel under some railroad tracks as I was leaving the Multnomah Falls. Ironically, it turned out better than any of the photos I took of the actual waterfalls.
Missed it by that much.
I will not flip off the paparazzi, I will not flip off the paparazzi...
An iPhone would be nice...
Oh, heh, so you did. Looks like you finally convinced yourself. ;)
Of course the native apps like Mail.app, iTunes, Safari, etc. are all musts, but in addition:
- Quicksilver
- Adium
- Twitterific
- TextMate
- Cyberduck
- NeoOffice
- Airfoil (if you have an airport extreme)
- VMware Fusion (for when you must run Windows)
- And my latest favorite app (acquired from MacHeist), CoverSutra
I just made the switch at the end of August, and several readers from my blog gave me a ton of suggestions you might find helpful: http://www.elliotswan.com/2007/08/31/made-the-switch
Whatever makes me the most money without being annoying. ;)
Text-Link-Ads have been doing me well, and recently I've been beta testing Adpinion--I really like the concept, but so far I haven't really made much of anything with it.
They're everywhere. :) A lot of designers/developers will do stuff like that (such as me), or there are several sites where this is all the people do. Snook has a nice list of some of these places.
AirPort Express + stereo = awesomeness.
Perhaps...I was personally bored throughout most of it, but obviously some of the people around me found it scary. Be interested to hear what others here thought.
I haven't really noticed any issues, but I've recently switched to Safari 3 for basic browsing (faster, better-looking) and only use FireFox on Mac for developing.
I actually liked Independence Day... Any sort of tension the movie had was carried mostly through bad jump scenes, and the plot wasn't really developed enough to make it an interesting story--just enough to get zombies or whatever they were in there.
And unfortunately, no, I didn't see The Dark Night short since I didn't go to an IMAX.
Just got back from the midnight showing... I'm sorry to say, that was pretty much horrible. However, the people surrounding me cracked me up...guy behind me jumped to the point of kicking my chair quite hard and getting embarrassed, girl next to me kept covering her head with her sweater, and another guy jumped super high while his friends made fun of him.
But yeah, other than that...not too great.
Definitely...I've been looking forward to this one for a while. It'll be interesting to see if Will Smith can hold a movie by himself.
Installed it, just started messing around...Not a huge fan of the new dock, as it's slower on my 1gig macbook. Still smooth, just not quite as fast. Going to like stacks and spaces, though.
Another issue I'm having is that my growl plugins for adium and mail no longer seem to be working. I'll have to look to see if there's any updates or something...anybody figured that one out?
I backed up most of my stuff last night, but I just did the upgrade and it worked great.
Just pre-ordered...It should be pretty sweet.
I wish iChat was available for windows though, as there's some pretty awesome new features in there, but they're fairly limited when it only works with other people running iChat...
@Ozone:
For those, I use FireFox, NeoOffice, and Photoshop. Adium is probably my favorite app as well.
I made the switch about a month and a half ago, and so I asked my blog readers and got some great suggestions in the comments, it might be worth checking out.
I would, except I still haven't heard any confirmations that CS3 runs on it?
The only downside I'm seeing at the moment is the new dock and menu bar, they seem to be rather extraneous and "Vista-like".
Yeah, I have to agree that I'm not a huge fan of the menu bar...
Halo 3, of course.
I've got the Incase Canvas Sling and love it. Big enough to fit a few textbooks, iPod, cords, etc. as well.
I'm basically in love with the new homepage.
I used to support them, but like Scrivs said, it started slowing things way down so I took it out. I didn't know they had ever fixed it (have they?), so I never re-enabled it.
What part of it is 80 degrees?
One thing to look at would be visitor loyalty. With spinoffs being launched every day, having visitors that stick it out knowing that you always have something great in the pipes (and being willing to pay to do so) is very important.
FireFox can hog a lot of memory on Windows, especially if you have a lot of extensions installed. On my mac I only have about 4 extensions and it seems to run quite fast.
- 30" Apple Cenima ($1,799.00)
- Wreless Mighty Mouse ($69.00)
- New wireless keyboard ($79.00)
- Mac Pro ($2499)
- iPhone ($399)
- Incase Canvas Vertical Sling ($59.95)
- iWork 08 ($79)
I'd have $16.05 left over.
» CSS or XHTML Validation: If you had a choice ... Last Reply: 3 months ago by lalindsey.
XHTML. Honestly, I really don't care if my CSS validates--usually it probably doesn't, since I'm usually using stuff like opacity, the appropriate IE filters, and maybe some Safari text shadows and whatnot.
