my kickass twitter feed.

While we're all on the subject of twitter I found an awesome extension for Firefox called Twitterbar that allows you to type your post in the address bar and then hit a green + sign at the end of the address bar to post your message to your twitter account. Pretty cool, I think.

Thats horrible, it looks like it is redirecting to a parking page right now.

Yeah, after I had sent the email I realized that if your domain wasn't working neither would your email. So.... yeah.

I hope it all gets sorted it out soon, I'm sure you are dying to get back to writing and surely missing the work that is generated by your site.

I emailed him also, hopefully he gets it sorted out. The clipart site that it was redirecting too was pretty awful.

All I get now is server not found instead of that awful clipart site redirect.

» Are you going to Pink For October ?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by icyqueengoddess.

I have gone pink for October on my web design site.

I understand your reasons for not going pink, cooper, but I think that going pink for October on a web site isn't so much about making a cure but raising awareness.

The awareness raised and the attention gained are something that will motivate others, like you, to support fund raisers in their communities.

» When is 9 rules going to go pink for october?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by Cappuccino.

Exactly! I'll do it if you want.

You don't have to change the entire design, just make it pink enough for people to take notice. The idea is to raise awareness.

I use basecamp at work for project management and for freelancing. I use google apps calendar/mail/gtalk/reader for communication, news and scheduling. I use tada for to do's.

I use clicky for traffic analysis (sometimes google) and I use delicious for bookmark management. I use linkedin for networking, mint for financial analysis and I use 9 rules to waste time on the internet.

I'm sure there are others I use and have forgot about but these stand out most to me.

Hope this helps.

Another vote for Aptana here, it is a great open source alternative to Dreamweaver. I have moved completely from using dreamweaver to Aptana.

The only thing I miss about Dreamweaver is the custom keyboard shortcuts for snippets. Fortunately for all of us they are planning on implementing those features very soon, and their snippet system is much more powerful then Dreamweavers.

Also for the poster, Aptana is very quick with remote editing. It is also much less of a memory hog, it takes the memory it needs and is done with your system.

The auto-complete is pretty cool also. I wrote up a short review recently of my switch from Dreamweaver to Aptana actually, if anyone is interested.

It sucks that they copied the logo, but I'm sure that the 9rules lawyers will all agree. This is a perfect opportunity for 9rules. You guys get a TV station, I think it is awesome. You should do 24-7 "video notes" on it.

I don't think it matters which you use just as long as the readability isn't hampered by using a font with crazy serifs. I definitely wouldn't use times new roman/times though. It looks horrible on the web.

I need some feedback on my new design

Design Community — Posted: May. 1, 2007  ...   Last By: jackosh @ 1 year ago

I can't decide if I like my new design yet and I need a general consensus of thumbs up or thumbs down and if possible a little critique of the various elements. The biggest parts of the design I have a question about are overall layout, color and the background.

Any feedback you guys can give me would be awesome and greatly appreciated. Currently the only pages that are active are the main page and most of the portfolio is active also. Just as a side bragging note the web site is a tableless CSS design, and 100% XHTML 1.0 compliant.

I like #2 and #3 also, I think I like #2 because of how common it is and I'm drawn to the formal balance of it so for #3 I want to see it formally balanced also. I think that you should probably go with #3 but try and make it less blocky as the layout suggests.

Just make sure that the indents for the body aren't as large as they appear on the thumbnail and I think that one will be a winner.

» Should you upgrade to Adobe Creative Suite 3?  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by dustinbrewer.

I have run it on three different machines, the first one is my laptop which is an AMD 64 X2 TL-52 1.8GHZ with 2GB of RAM and a shared video card using 256mb of my RAM. It runs pretty decently on the machine it (Photoshop, Illustrator and sometimes InDesign) doesn't do the notorious lockup as often as CS2 did. It seems to run pretty smoothly. (PC)

The second machine I run it on is a p4 3.2ghz with 2.5gb of RAM and 256mb of dedicated video memory on a Nvidia 6200. It runs much better on this machine then it does my laptop. Doesn't freeze or slow down at all. Runs very fast, although Flash has run a little slow on it for some reason. (PC)

The third machine is a Mac Pro with dual Xeon processors and 4GB of memory which goes without saying-- the software ran as good as it can. (Mac)

Overall I think the software handles memory much better then its predecessors had in the past. Which is a benefit I probably should have included in the article.

Should you upgrade to Adobe Creative Suite 3?

Design Community — Posted: Apr. 27, 2007  ...   Last By: dustinbrewer @ 1 year ago

Adobe Creative Suite 3 has been released for about a week now and everyone has had a chance to try it out and see what kinds of new things it can do or what new features it has. So far everything that we know and love about the products is mostly there. Although the new palettes in illustrator CS3, InDesign CS3 and Photoshop CS3 are similar to InDesign CS2 as in they stay mostly out of the way unless you need them. Which is a huge benefit for saving screen real estate and possibly one of the most useful features so far. There are of course more functional features that are useful but some of the best features are organizational.

Dreamweaver CS3 has now includes multiple different tabs within the software for various different aspects of the web design experience. One of those is the incorporation of the Spry framework, which should help to boost the AJAX via the Spry framework into the mainstream even further then it already is right now. I have been personally toying with the idea of incorporating some major AJAX into the web site but I am still leery of how I use it and how the search engines will respond.

The Spry framework/AJAX integration is pretty seamless a long with various other specific options that the new top toolbox gives you. You can even have a customizable toolbar that you specify which tools you want in based of course on which tools you use most frequently. Another organizational improvement for the design software. I am not sure that these are necessarily beneficial to beginners more as to seasoned designers that have a good idea of how the software already works.

One of those toolbars with limited functionality out of the box is a PHP toolbar that has some basic PHP markups available on it. These buttons can of course be modified to include more advanced PHP technique depending on what you as the designer use more when developing your PHP code for your projects.

One surprise that a lot of people discovered was that Adobe did not in fact keep the Macromedia name on Flash, Fireworks and Dreamweaver. They are now Adobe Fireworks CS3, Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 and Adobe Flash Pro CS3. There was a lot of speculation amongst various blogs that Macromedia would remain apart of the software titles.

I myself like most of the new layouts but I have heard some opinions to the contrary about the new layouts, some of my fellow designers wish the layout wasn't changed in some of the ways it was. I have so far not found anything that is counterproductive however and every issue they have had is easily altered. At any rate it is worth it to upgrade to Adobe Creative Suite CS3 if you would like to free up some extra screen real estate. The jury is still out on added functionality overall, it seems to run a little smoother on my Mac and PC both.

I still have the Adobe CS3 editions table available for those curious about the various versions of Adobe Creative Suite 3. I personally upgraded to the Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Web Premium. Let me know your opinions of the software and whether you think it is worth the upgrade based on your experience or feelings in the comments section.

» Adobe CS3 release date and packages  ...  Last Reply: 1 year ago by thatguy.

Apparently Amazon isn't quite sure about the release date. It doesn't say July 1st anymore it says April 20th. Thats right, apparently it is being released on 4-20.

It looks like the master collection version is going to be released on July 1st though. Probably some feature of the whole package won't be ready in time or something.

(The official webcast launch event from Adobe will be at 3:30PM EST Which is in an hour and a half.)

I don't know, but I sure am anxious to see what Dreamweaver looks like. I'm hoping it will have a lot more CSS and less legacy syntax support. And that it will be pretty of course.
