Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios has launched a download service with high-end British speaker manufacturer Bowers & Wilkins. It's called the B&W Music Club...
Think it can get testy between mainstream media and technology blogs? Take a break from that Twitter debate and head over to the sports world.
I liked this from the standpoint of journalism. I watched the original video and it gave me pause, though I don't think they really "solved" anything, they certainly talked the idea into the ground.
Lines stretched for blocks outside phone stores Monday as ordinary Cubans were allowed to sign up for cellular phone service for the first time.
...the sort of narrative that could be written about any beloved indie-music haven these days: it's a quirky anachronism in a world that really doesn't need it anymore...
I've been a Devo fan for many years and recently have been looking for the types of instruments they used on certain tracks. In my search I came across this interview. It's from 2005 but it's very cool. DEVO ROCKS!
BLVR: Do you think the internet and all the cheap, available technology of today has helped create a world that is closer to what you were hoping for back then?
MM: Maybe so. Because today, if a record company collapsed, who the hell would be losing, except the people who were out of jobs? Consumers aren’t going to be losers. And if you’re in music just to become a big, fat rock star, then I probably don’t like your music to begin with. It’s people who write music because they are obsessed that I like; because they have something to say and no other way to say it. And if you get rid of a lot of the poseurs by destroying record companies, maybe it’s a good trade-off.
@Deuse - HELL YEAH!
@Sara - Thanks for the tip. I like the album!
Elvis Costello ~ Oliver's Army
The list is too long but here are my most favored favorites. It all depends on my mood really.
Motley Crue ~ Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)
Motley Crue ~ Kickstart My Heart
Sham 69 ~ Borstal Breakout
Sum41 ~ Fat Lip
Sum41 ~ Motivation
Green Day ~ American Idiot
My Chemical Romance ~ Teenagers
Addendum: I must add Rage Against The Machine ~ Guerrilla Radio
I'm sure there's more I can't think of right now.
A stark truth facing any aspiring digital music service these days is that working with record labels is going to carry a hefty price.
I prefer trapazoidal looks to my interwebs pages...
okay, fine. I'm a jackass. ;-)
I tried Hulu a couple of times. I dig it but I'd like to see more "free" movies. The first thing I watched was The Big Lebowski.
Like I said, I'm hoping for more content. Till then, "the dude abides."
Mmmmm coconut...
Let's see. Things that make me happy are:
Sun-dresses (the worlds GREATEST invention).
A great cup (or two) of coffee.
Mixing great music.
The pets being retarded.
Sleep.
reading great writing.
Paying my bills on time. :-)
nice!
yeah.
My friend, there's not enough salt OR pepper in the world. Tobasco sauce will only hurt me more. I'd have to pour it in my eyes.
Do I sound bitter? ;-)
Hey guys,
I recently bookmarked and then UNbookmarked THIS web site. I thought it was good for learning about new bits of technology. The writer of the linked blog above has been posting stupid trolls about the music industry. The original Op Ed from Billy Bragg is HERE.
I urge you all to read both carefully and make up your own mind about it.
I also urge you to boycott everything TechCrunch.
With all the solid content here I can't conscienably promote or follow the site. For the love of all that's HOLY, the author of the blog posted a link to another blog (written by HIMSELF) to support his argument. He basically quoted himself to support a "fact". NO outside support for his arguments.
Please help me spread the word.
P.S. the horrid little man that posted the crap blog is also the "big cheese" of the web site.
Too many, too little time. I'm a member of Deviant Art and am overwhelmed by the number of talented photographers out there. I just discovered this guy last night. His work is freakishly cool.
Herr Buchta.
WARNING!! ADULT CONTENT!
I look forward to checking out all the people listed here.
This is an Op Ed piece written by Billy Bragg about the rights of the musician in the age of social network sites featuring music.
You know social networking has jumped the shark when Starbucks gets into the act.
Facebook plans to launch an instant-messaging application for members to embed on their profiles as early as next week, TechCrunch reported Friday.
A white lie is a white lie.

Also, instead of saying you'll love him at any weight (because you really don't know that, actually), tell him you love him and just want him to be healthy--that you want to be healthy together.
That may be true but if he's foolish enough to actually BELIEVE it, well....
...Trent Reznor has made no secret of how the Nine Inch Nails album Ghosts I-IV has sold. According to the band, 800,000 transactions generated...
You'll have to read it to believe it.
Tell him you love him at any weight (however you do that depends on your relationship) then tell him if his weight really bothers him to (insert health advice here).
It's all about presentation.
@ia_ : not for an Apple. I'm still using my PB G4 from 4 years ago with no trouble. I'm thinking the expense of it was worth my lack of issues.
@ErinR: I say the iMac. All the reasons above are correct. Get your iMac and enjoy the ergonomics. Then, when you get more dough, go for a refurbished MBP. THAT would be the best of all worlds.
Yeah, I'm a fanboy.

Here's something that's been plaguing me for some time. Perhaps I should put this in a separate note, but I've been wondering. What makes a recording that's LoFi more "real" that something that's well produced? I have a wide ranging taste so I'm okay with LoFi, in some cases, but I MUCH prefer clean, full spectrum recordings. I want my studio tricks to be as invisible as possible.
It just seems like the idea of a more "real" recording falls along the same lines as "selling out". It's a nebulous concept that really only holds meaning to the person that says it, rather than having any actual meaning.
Okay, rant over.
Now back to the music. :-)
