I subscribe to 3hive and So Said The Gramophone. And I occasionally go to Hype Machine to see what my friends are listening to. I don't listen to radio at all - and even if I do there's just nothing Malaysia radio plays that's nice.
So. I want to know where else you guys go to to find new stuff?

Usually just from the website of the local radio station, music channels on TV (Sucker Free) and Rundle.

I'm into unknown artists BIG TIME, so I hang out around GarageBand.com, Download.com Music and, until recently (when they stopped international MP3 album downloading) CD Baby. I miss the old Mp3.com still, though. It was the most definitive source for unknown artists. Sad that that was taken away from me, simply because the RIAA was and is Satan.
I've been boycotting the RIAA since about 2001.

KEXP.org – it's a college radio station in Seattle and probably one of the best I've ever heard. They stream their programming 24/7 in addition to several podcasts. They're usually way ahead of the curve when it comes to the next big thing and they play various different genres. Love em.

Lately I've been using Muxtape to find new music. Sometimes I'll use Last.fm but mostly it's Muxtape now. I've found a lot of great bands from there.

Various blogs. No one place specifically, but when someone post something like JoshAwesome's April '08 Mixtape... well, I can't help but take notice.

Josh, I noticed Cory (a good friend of mine) and Lucero on your mixtape. You been hanging out in Memphis or something? :)

Gnorb: I like to help people find new music, especially good music, so I try to post them up when I can. I'm glad people take notice. :)
jensized: I wish I was hanging around in Memphis. I'm hoping to take a trip down that way this summer to visit some family friends and visit Graceland. I'm hoping to take an extra day or two to check out the music scenes in Nashville and Memphis. And I hadn't heard of Cory until I came across him on Muxtape. I've been listening to Lucero for awhile now though.

Well if/when you do make sure to holler at me. I can show you a couple off-the-beaten path places and introduce you to some folks.

jensized: I will keep that in mind. It probably won't be towards the end of the summer. I need to find an apartment and do all that good stuff before I really make a vacation. But I'll make sure to remember to give you a shout.

Josh, that mixtape is totally awesome. I'm saving it, bookmarking it, and I'll be hunting down the artists' albums later.
If you put up another one please let us know. A note, an email ... anything. Whoosh this is good.

Good tips all around. I find my music anywhere I can. Links, books, blogs, sites, tips, commercials, no place is safe from my searchings. :-)

Here's something that's been plaguing me for some time. Perhaps I should put this in a separate note, but I've been wondering. What makes a recording that's LoFi more "real" that something that's well produced? I have a wide ranging taste so I'm okay with LoFi, in some cases, but I MUCH prefer clean, full spectrum recordings. I want my studio tricks to be as invisible as possible.
It just seems like the idea of a more "real" recording falls along the same lines as "selling out". It's a nebulous concept that really only holds meaning to the person that says it, rather than having any actual meaning.
Okay, rant over.
Now back to the music. :-)

Thanks shadowsun. I'm working on putting up another one. I'm going to return to doing them monthly now.

I'm a fan of
http://www.projectplaylist.com
They don't ALWAYS have the songs that I'm looking for, but they're pretty extensive.
In the world of underground music though, they don't have nearly as much as I'd like. :( Oh well, it serves it's purposes :D

Project Playlist is a wonderful way to illegally download commercial music. ;P
