I know a couple of people with a 360 and I'm the only one that hasn't had to turn it back in yet. Had it since '06 (maybe '05) and have encountered zero problems. Maybe I don't game with it enough or I was one of the lucky ones. Has your luck been as good as mine?

I just found this note. No, my 360 didn't last. I got it, had it for a hot minute and it red ringed. Got a replacement, it red ringed. I was listening to a gaming podcast the other day and the reviewer had the same experience. After all this time red rings shouldn't be happening.

I know a guy in Lauderdale that's on his 3rd. All replaced under warranty, but uh... still, that's terrible.
If they update it soon with blu-ray I am tempted to grab one, but until some sort of update I'm afraid to get one due to all the problems.

You have to put these things in to perspective. While they will be replaced under warranty, there is no financial risk, so you may as well just buy one and enjoy it.
As for Blue Ray, that's a different argument, but I have no intention of buying a new DVD format - broadband is getting faster and faster and downloads and other on-demand mechanisms are going to make disks of any kind a waste of time and space.

I like that philosophy.

That is if your ISP isn't one of the many BIG name ISP's planning on capping your bandwidth and charging you if you exceed a specific allotment per month like the internet is now a cell phone plan.

@Right On - People will change to an ISP that does the job for them. You can already buy films from the XBL movie store and in the UK, most cable companies do on-demand delivery and British Telecom have their own IPTV platform (which also works with Xbox 360). These things are here now as long as you don't buy bottom rung broadband packages with poor limits. People are using things like the BBC iPlayer and the ISP's moan that that put a lot of extra traffic on the network, but it's seen as the way things are going - an opportunity - not something to try and nip in the bud and discourage.
Personally, I have a 330GB monthly limit on my mid-range package and I struggle to go anywhere near that by a huge margin. If it ever became a problem I'd swap.

Heh, you're asking our Congress to do something that makes sense. You must have a case of the Mondays.

Unless you happen to be one of those unlucky people that gets a red ring right after the warranty expires. My friend Christian is sending me a flurry of text messages right now because he just got a red ring. 10 days after the warranty expired.

I've had two so far and neither one had the red ring of death. Guess I'm lucky too.

The 360 warranty is 3 years now isn't it. I think if I had 3 years out of it and it blew up I'd have got my money's worth out of it.
The other thing, is that if you look at the Wikipedia page for the 360, you can see a list of the different revisions the box went through - you can bet that the problems with the early ones were sorted out in the newer revisions. One of the revisions was to use processors that have a smaller size and kick out less heat. A lot of these problem boxes sent back to MS will have been analysed to death to find out the cause and that information used to revise the next version.
Short of giving them away and making the guarantee infinite, the current deals seem like a steal really considering what you get - even if you only get 3 years use out of it (which I think is highly unlikely given the constant revision that goes in to the making of them).

The warranty now is three years but for my friend, he just missed it because it didn't kick in until July 2007.
I'm not going to look to see how long I've been waiting for my replacement.
Obviously not because my box was brand new, red ringed, received my "new" replacement and it red ringed. Listening to the podcast the game reviewer had the same problem but mine happened before his - but it was a brand new box. Christian's box was an older box.
Oh well.

It seems the people that have it red ring on them have it red ring on them again, but us professional gamers who know how to game have absolutely no problems at all.
Just saying...

Are you trying to imply I'm NOT a pro? You been drinking?

K, don't take this the wrong way, but as long as I've known you I haven't known you to be really good at any game. None. I'm just going on my experience here.
Feel free to voice your opinion over here. You just gotta settle the ego down to think of a game that you dominated since I've known you and if you can come up with a great example then you might be good, but certainly no pro.

I asked him what game he was beat at. One game. Halo. Now that's a game I suck at - shooters. My twitch sucks. It's one of those things I said I wanted to improve and never got around to doing. I'm comedic amusement when I play shooters. Have everyone rolling lol.
Games where I have to grow and manage a city (Civilization series, Warcraft, Sim games) or something like that, I'm good.
