We all know that sleep is important, sleeping 8 hours a day is recommended, taking a nap helps improve mental and physical performance later on in the day...yaddi yaddi ya!

So how many hours a night do you sleep?

I can only mange to fit in 6 hours a night in my busy lifestyle :)

I get at least 7 every night, unless it's a night out of course.

I think everyone is different and finds their own level. If I haven't had enough sleep before a day out mountain biking it affects me noticably (not as much energy). I think it can have more of an impact than other factors like diet in some ways so shouldn't be neglected - I tend to get 6 or 7 hours typically but try and get early nights before a big day out cycling to make sure I'm fully recharged!

Incidentally, Dean Karnazes, the guy who ran the 50 marathons in 50 days makes do with about 4 hours a night!.

I do fine with about 4 hours a night, and have been that way for years. I didn't think it was anything special.

If it is on a weekend I usually get 9-10 hours sleep however if it is on a weekday I usually get about 7 hours, sometimes 8 (just).

I generally get at least 7 hours of sleep, and try my hardest always to wake up before 11am. If I wake up after that, then I often times have problems getting moving throughout the day.

If I work in the morning however, I'll get up around 8 or 9. There is rarely a night anymore where I go to bed before midnight.

For as long as I remember, I've only ever gotten about 2-3 hours of sleep a night. The only time I ever get more is when I'm sick and then I'll get about 10+ hours of sleep.

I need at least 6 hours of sleep, even though I am lacking in that recently and the weekends became a total sleep fest of 10 plus hours.

I am in bed usually 9 hrs a night but I might get 6-7 hrs of good REM sleep. And I need my sleep.....lack of sleep gives me a really bad "hangover" feeling....

7-8 but I need at least 9 on a regular basis :|

between 6 and 7 hours. Usually no more, sometimes less. By choice.

"sleeping 8 hours a day is recommended,"

- I sleep about 8 hours on weekends.

"helps improve mental and physical performance later on in the day...yaddi yaddi ya!"

- But you "yadda yadda'd" over the best part!

Unfortunately, I don't sleep nearly enough. Although I've gotten better at forcing myself to go to bed, I lived thorugh years in which 3 to 4 hours were enough until I collapsed into a 15-hour pile of sleep. Unhealthy to the max.

Sleep?

Such fond memories.

I'm blustering my way through life on 3-4 hours at the moment (for the past few weeks). I've never needed more than 6, but 4 is killing me.

I can also never, ever sleep more than 8 hours. It just never happens, even if I don't sleep for days.

I alway try to go for the 8 hours, but never make it.

Usually it's 6 hours

@Devin

That's a really interesting pattern you have there. If I had enough self-discipline, I might have the ability to actually follow through with something like that. But as it stands, I have difficulty waking myself up after 6 hours of sleep when I don't really even need to wake up.

I dont sleep enough..I get around 7 hours at the moment, max. I really want to start getting around nine.

I usually get around 7-8 hours a night, though if I was left to my own devices (i.e. no schedule) I'd sleep around 10 hours out of every 48 or so hours. Work and play...then crash... work and play...then crash.

8-9 hours. less 6 hours doesn't help my beauty. :)

It depends if you count "sleep" or "laying in bed in twilight". I'm not really sure how much I actually sleep, but I usually lose my ability to remember somewhere around 11:00P and wake up around 08:30A - 09:00A. So, somewhere around 10 hours or so. I used to get around 5 or 6 when I was a CSCI student.

I have read that those who sleep only six hours live longer, according to studies. I guess that has to do with the balance between sleeping enough and sleeping too much. (Of course, children and teenagers are shown better off with 10 hours--not that either get it often.)

As for me...it definitely depends on a lot of other things, such as time of year, what I've been doing, etc. I can function pretty well off four hours or 10 hours. I feel most rested at eight, though.

12 hours.

I would say 8-10. =)

We have a cat that must have been a rooster in another life because he wakes us up like clockwork every morning.

Very little. I feel like I'm wasting time when I sleep.

I get about 7-8 hours, on a good night, and 5-6 otherwise.

4-5 hours usually, naps included. Any more and I don't think I have enough time in the day to run my life.

I wish I can live without sleep though...then again...there were always assignment due that caused me to go without it for days.

as i wrote in my last note, my problem is not that i sleep too much, but that i find hard to wake up, or better, to find the will to jump off the bed :D in the morning, that it's so warm and comfortable...

I try to get around 8, like everyone else. But normally, I hover around 7. If I woke up without the alarm, I'd probably naturally get closer to 9, which is what I get on the weekends. Anymore than that and I feel groggy for the rest of the day :(

I sleep from 10pm to 5:30am every night, except on Saturday/Sunday, I sleep from 12am to 9:30am.

Normally its around 7 hours for me coz of the workload though I am never happy about sleeping so less. I have had times when I have slept for more than 12 hrs at a stretch. I guess it depends on the person's daily routine, amount of work among other things. Plus I think younger people can sleep a lot more than old people.

Since I have a 8 month old baby - certainly not enough! I try to get around 7 hours per day.

Mine varies between 3.5 to 5.5 hours during weekdays following a Triphasic pattern. Then about 6~7 hours in a normal chunk of sleep during the weekends.
