If you are a guy you know how often we make jokes about watching porn. When I do this around my female friends many of them scoff at me and pretend they don't watch it. I know most of them do because they enjoy activities of a sexual nature. Porn is a natural extension of that in mind.

Now when I say "porn" I don't mean the hardcore stuff or any type of fetishes, just straight up sex. I never understood why people saw anything wrong with it. I was happy to come across an article written by a woman that actually expresses her love of porn better than I ever could.

My name is Paul Scrivens and I watch porn. There goes my bid for Senate.

When I wrote my article about porn it brought people out of the woodwork. But let's keep it real, men talk about watching porn but they hid that they watch it. Thank the internet being able to download it privately.

I told a story on my blog about going to the movie rental place to get porn (I have no patience for boring porn). First, the management didn't want to let me in because I was female. I wasn't haven't that. When I went in there it was amusing to watch the guys shrink up in embarrassment yet would hang on every word I said when I was talking to my ex about what we should get.

A lot of women don't watch porn, especially if their bodies aren't the way they want it. Porn can draw a lot of insecurities in a woman. Having your man drool over another woman you can't come close to looking like (or sexually perform as well as) takes a thick skin. Many women feel as though they aren't sexually satisfying enough if their man needs an outside source.

I've honestly never met a guy who denied watching porn whether we were around women or just the guys.

I can see that.

I got a large collection of interesting material because straight vanilla bores me to death. My girlfriend doesn't mind one bit, though it doesn't do anything for her, instead watching what I have purely out of curiosity (because shes never watched porn before I introduced her to it) and humour (the ones I got to laugh at in the first place). But she always remarked that women in the porn industry seem to always have good shoes.

It certainly is degrading to women, and one really doesn't know the industry if one doesn't think that much of what goes on goes on in the way of oppression of women who are undereducated with very few option.

To each his own, but unfortunately technology allows for very young males minds to be forever imprinted with a distorted view of both females and sexuality. They saying is "this ain't your daddy's playboy".

It's an easy FYI for those who have never looked at the site they have a list of some 500 articles and other pieces of information.

It might at least make you reconsider the impact of pornography on out culture.

I guess I've always been confused because if women aren't signing up to perform in porn movies (even the most ridiculously offensive ones) then there is no more porn.

I understand that people get trapped in situations that call for extreme measures (putting food on the table for a young one for example) but Cooper is your argument that women that have few options are essentially forced to do porn against their better judgment? Couldn't getting a crappy fast food job be another option? I just never really bought into the argument that 1) men force women to do porn, 2) women have no options so they do it.

You're generalizing. I won't say there aren't plenty of examples of this, but porn has been around far longer than our current civilization and sensibilities. So has prostitution, and in some places it's still regarded as an honest living.

It certainly can be degrading to women. Cars can also be murder weapons.

Distorted according to who, what standard? First you say to each his own, then you imply a standard. That is directly contradictory.

You could present a much better case for your point. All I'm getting from your post is you're vehemently against the porn industry.

I'm actually in agreement with you that the industry lends itself to abuse, degradation, exploitation, and worse. I don't think porn in itself is bad at all, just where our modern societies have taken it in search of the biggest payoff.

This is the reason I said I was talking about just straight porn, nothing hardcore. No punishment, bondage, S&M, choking or anything sick. That stuff I can't argue can be degrading as hell, but the normal stuff, which I admit is probably harder to find is where I don't see women or men being degraded. The problem is that everything falls under the porn umbrella.

When people mention hardcore, I do include straight vanilla porn as well. As long as it's people having sex, on screen, that's my definition of hardcore. BDSM, fetishes and all that are genres much like TV shows and movies have different genres to the whole thing.

Not I'm not going to argue on whether or not the porn industry is degrading to women because as far as I'm concerned, there are already 3 men here defending why porn is alright and I'm not a woman so I can't speak on that behalf. What would be interesting is whether a woman can come up here can defend the pornographic industry. I've read plenty of articles from women in the porn industry that defend their actions with pride (most notably this one and is SFW), but none from everyday women outside the industry.

Any other women aside from Tyme care to say that there is nothing wrong with porn?

The problem is that we (sounds like everyone on this thread) know the normal place of men and women in a relationship. The thing that scares me is that the young people today who see the bestiality and the sado masochist stuff, for example, can't separate that from the proper fit between a man and woman. Will future generations of men respect women as we (hopefully) have? I think not porn so much but the easy availability of porn to curious kids through the internet has a few John Gacy's out there getting groomed.

You are entirely correct in your thinking rileycentral. Porn (just going to generalize from now on) can have a major influence on youth. For the point of this discussion though I was just wondering what the big deal with is adults not being able to either discuss porn or pretend they have nothing to do with it.

Thanks Scrivs. It's just a traditional thing. Like that movie Pleasantville. You just don't talk about certain things. I don't know why it's like that. I was joking with some of my wife's friends over the other day. I said, "Come on over anytime. Just call first because we're nudists." They stared at each other until I laughed and said I was joking. But it goes to show, you should watch what you talk about with people joking or not. I wonder if that will ever change, or if the taboos of my kids' generation will become something more odd.

Yeah it will change and I'm sure has been slowly changing generation after generation. With my generation people don't really seem uncomfortable about the idea, they just think it's "proper" to pretend you don't watch it. Nobody I know is uncomfortable talking about sex though and I know it always hasn't been like that.
