Ever watch an anime so bad, you feel you're being punished for some unknown sin? Have you ever felt that you've cheesed off the anime gods when you start a series and realize it's sucking the life out of you?
I've only encountered three anime in my anime viewing that were so phenomenally bad, I felt as if by watching them I was atoning for some past life snafu; say the sacking of Rome.
1.) Trinity Blood- watch one episode for minor infractions and three for major ones.
2.) Last Exile- Not as bad as the former and the latter; watch the whole series for forgiveness after cheating on your midterms.
3.) Glass Fleet- so bad, after one episode my soul's as shiny as a freshly minted penny.
Glass Fleet happened last night. I still hurt from where Volume One left its lash. Ouch!
What about you guys, which anime is your hair shirt, your Hail Mary's, your penance?

I will agree with you when it comes to Last Exile. And the wost thing about that show is that everyone says it's good...but it's not.

@ Micheal, I know! What the heck do people see in that series? That and Karas. Dear lord, I was bombarded with nasty comments after I gave Karas a lousy review. I would have put Karas up there with the other three, but it was too confusing for me to feel too punished for having watched it.

Can someone explain to me what is so bad about Last Exile? Maybe I just have poor taste, but I really enjoyed it. Any thoughts?

It was really boring. And the characters look like they're miserable.

Hmmm... I thought the visuals were excellent. But I can see where it would be boring. Haven't watched it in a long time...

I loved Last Exile's art direction and the whole concept of that alternative world. In those aspects, it's very original and well achieved.
But as for the storyline, and most of the characters, I have to admit that they were badly conducted thus most people lost interest in the show.
As for watching an anime that is really bad... that's the feeling I get whenever I watch a Naruto Shippuuden episode, and that fact amazes me because I follow the manga every week and I love it. Love Hina made me feel like that also, in the "filler" episodes (flying turtles anyone?).

I adore Last Exile, I can see it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but for me it hit the spot (sorry, I mean "die unbelievers!" ;) ).
For me, the anime that inflict the most pain are-
1) Love Hina: seriously, I could actually feel braincells dying by the time I reached volume 5.
2) El Cazador de la Bruja: think you understand the nature of boredom? I did too, until I watched this.
3) xxxHOLiC: a study on how to turn a good manga into an excruciatingly dull anime.
4) Seirei no Moribito: how to spread a thin plot across 26 episodes with the use of Sitting and Talking(TM).
5).hack//Roots: less a trainwreck than a case of the train never leaving the station in the first place.

The only Anime I really did not like to much was Lain. I gave it a chance but the story never really built up fast enough. I stayed to the end though and in the end all I can say is that I like the intro. I look for good art direction and now that is qualified by suprising me with something. Nowadays we get more of the same direction making almost every scene predictable.
I love the graphics in Last Exile. I like the retro futuristic look the most. The art direction was pretty cool though I have seen better. There is a lot of attention to detail which made me watch a few episodes over to look for more.
The sound track for Last Exile was pretty cool and unexpected. The European sound is refreshing and perfectly builds up the action in the scenes.
Lastly, Last Exile has a strong cast of characters. There are a couple of voice actors I would have switched out. But in life do you get to choose what people around you sound like? I thought it was a good balance of those characters you like and those you love to hate.
The story carried me through to the end at a decent pace. I'd give it a 8 out of 10.
Anyway, that's my deal.
