At this moment, I'm considering the possibility to use the ning.com social network site for educational purposes.
There is already a group discussion about this subject taking please on the platform itself.
The only two function that are missing are
1° an internal wiki or a wiki functionality to be put on the network site itself
2° the possibility to give points to exercises that are executed by the students
Anybody else over here who uses ning.com ?

I don't use Ning but am familiar with the service. I think for what you're looking to use it for it could work out very well, but if you want to take your application to the next level and possibly brand it, expand your offerings and functionality, I'd suggest developing something completely custom. All depends on what you want to use it for.

I'm setting up a network as we speak with custom branding. I'll let you know how it works when I start banging on it a bit.
