Since 2 years I only browse through english websites, but sometimes I can't find the right words to express myself (because english is my 5th language after french, arabic, italian and tunisian) and people are often rude with me when I make mistakes so I have that temptation to tell them the number of different languages I speak AND write to show them "who I am" but I don't do it because of modesty and because I know I'm not the only person who speaks many languages, I'm curious to see what about 9r members?

I only speak and write English. Though I've got a fairly good residual knowledge of French left over from college.
I've had a burning urge to be more multilingual recently though. On my list of languages I plan to learn to speak are French (more confidently), Russian, Spanish and Klingon (well, why not? Not too much to learn and it's quite fun). I wouldn't mind learning to write in Devanagari too -- I did some research into it recently for a little personal project and found it quite interesting.
Language fascinates me.

I think a note like this has been up before, but I just can't find it.
In any case. 4, though 2 can be considered as one since they are different dialects of the same language
English, Malay, Mandarin, Cantonese.
I am learning German, Japanese and Hokkien (another Chinese dialect) though. So that might be an extra three more languages soon enough.

I speak and write Spanish and English fluently. I can read Portuguese and French fairly well, though I'm loathe to speak them (mostly because of shyness). I have a little background in German, though only enough to decipher written sentences. I also started learning Greek, though that fizzled when I got busier.

I was sure (Kamigoroshi) that this discussion has always been poster before I also looked for it but I didn't find it too...

@Hedimac: You may want to change the title to "How many languages do you speak (and write)?", as that is more correct. :)

Speak:English
Write: English and a tiny bit of Latin.
Reading Latin would be more accurate.
I do speak and excel at writing in Sdrawkcab, the backwards language I "invented" when I was about 12. But that doesn't count.

I only sound intelligent when speaking English, but I can read Spanish (used to be able to speak it) and have a foundation in Japanese. Right now I'm in the process of learning German and when that is done I'm thinking of learning Arabic, Russian or Mandarin.

I'm only fluent in English. If my mother had taught me Tagalog when I was young, I'd probably be fluent in that but alas. Took 3 years of Spanish in high school but i really only retained enough to find the bathroom, curse, and say really silly things. I'm currently self studying Japanese and just finished the first level of my Pimsleur set a month ago.

I speak and write English, Dutch, Spanish and Papiamento. I can read a bit of French and Portuguese. I would love to learn Italian and I'm going to learn sign language as soon as I can find a place where they teach it.

English, and a very small amount of German, and that much only because I've lived here soooo long, though I understand much more than I could ever actually speak. Which actually doesn't mean much, except that I'm a much better listener at German parties. ;) My youngest daughter speaks German as a native (no fault of mine, obviously), and my oldest knows a bit more than I do, if that counts for anything...

I can read Hebrew slowly and speak Yiddish a little. My school district has 57 languages and I want to listen to kids in the hallway to learn how to curse in 57 languages! Three years of high school French doesn't come to mind often. I guess I'm 'English only' solo.

The records say that I am almost fluent in Spanish. But I know otherwise.
I can read and write Spanish well, but when it comes to the ears and mouth I'm deaf and dumb.
I think that I can write English better than I can speak it.

All Chinese dialects has it's own slang as well dependant on the geolocation. It's like American English and British English, different terms have their cultural meaning.
That's why I've always found it best to understand the culture at the same time I'm learning the language. When you start thinking along th same lines as they do, you speak the same lines as well.
Ingenius.

I'm an ugly American who speaks only one language, although I'm street smart and able to read 2 - 3 books every week.
There's no need to "show" people anything - simply be authentic and honest - you're human just like everybody else.

English is my first language. I know a little German and a little Korean. I spoke both pretty well when I lived in their respective countries, but now that I live in the states, I've forgotten most of it.
I do know the Korean alphabet and can read and write, just can't translate, if that makes any sense.

Nothing does as much for the ego as reading a note like this and realizing that you are stupidest one in the metaphorical room.
I only speak English with anything near fluency. I have studied French, but I can barely even read it now.

I speak/read/write English fluently as it is my 1st language, as well as understand some written (but not spoken) Latin because of a math teacher who was a classical learning/Latin fannatic, but I live in Southern California, a place where I have yet to meet anyone who does not know at least a small amount of Spanish, including myself. As of now I can say that I'm hungry, say basic greetings/goodbyes, ask where the bathroom is, and a few other things in Spanish. I can also understand most spoken or written Spanish, given its extreme similarity to English and Latin along with my basic knowledge of the language. This pales in comparisson to most people I know.

I'm native in Swedish, almost fluent in English and on the way to become fluent in Italian.
I understand Norwegian almost perfectly but I can't write nor talk. I can also understand simple Finnish, Danish and German.
I love to know new languages, but I'm just too lazy to study them :P

I'm also native in Swedish, pretty good in English (better writer than talker), understand some Danish, Norwegian, German and a few words in Finnish & Spanish.
I would love to learn Spanish properly, a very useful language - especially since i wouldn't mind living there for the winter season.....

Although I can write in three languages-English, Malay and Chinese, I have never been really proficient in any of them.
I would love to pick up Scottish, Japanese and Spanish too but I should polish the three aforementioned languages first. They are extensively used in my country Malaysia.
