Hi! I just clipped an article about How to motivate your Child to enjoy Mathematics.
I am an engineer and I can say that I love mathematics because it is very fulfilling when you solve problems dealing with analysis, rather than just by merely thinking or memorizing. Of course, no offense with other professions. In fact, I love writing letters now rather than numbers, that is why I am blogging.
Now, I am wondering how were you during your school days with respect to mathematics, do you hate it or do you love it? and why?

I loved math, and still do. I get my math fix by working on graphics algorithms that use trigonometry.

I hated all forms of math. I have no use for it in my career. I do very practical, concrete things about math only such as balancing a checkbook, doing income taxes, figuring out how much something costs when it's on sale etc. When politicians start talking about huge numbers, I can't even understand or appreciate the subject.

Come on 9rules community! Deep in my heart, I know and accept that I am probably the only person who doesn't use math on a daily basis. I just thought of two more ways I do use numbers, but both examples are a little unusual. When I remodel a room, I figure out the area or how much paint to buy. When I design and plant my flower gardens, I use numbers to figure out how many bulbs will fit in an area.
I know the majority of you find math useful and even fascinating. Prove me right or wrong!

Yep, I love Maths to, I don't understand most things, but in maths it seems I always can find logic. As a kid I always had the highest grades in Math, and probably saved my ass when I had to get my diploma because all the other weren't that positive!

First of all, sorry for the late reaction. I have been busy these days doing things and mathematics, of course. Well, as I have said no one can escape from math. It is good to see people here who loves math. And yes, it gives a different feeling when we solve math problems.
I just hope I can also teach my children to enjoy it like I do.

I work as a web developer so maths is a crucial part of that. I do enjoy it and find it very useful in day-to-day life.

I like basic math, and even occasionally algebra, but generally speaking, I hated the subject in school; I seriously considered having a small party after I took my last math class in college a few quarters back.
I might have liked it more if more of it had been practical, because a lot of it made me feel like I was learning how to figure out the trajectory of a spaceship or something similar. I don't own any spaceships. :)
However, that doesn't explain all of my dislike towards the subject. I'm taking a geology course now, and while knowing the difference between potassium feldspar and plagioclase feldspar will likely never be helpful in my everyday life, I'm loving the class. I've had something "against" beyond-basic math for as long as I can remember, and despite previous efforts, I can't seem to shake the feeling.

Hated it. Still do, my mental arithmetic is terrible.
I do love statistics though - but on a computer (i.e. Minitab), not using a brain and paper. Good use of stats to highlight potential causes for problems is a great competitive advantage.
