What does "clean design" mean to you?

A lot of web designers/web design companies state on their websites that they specialize in creating "clean designs". Yet, their works differ one from another greatly in many aspects. So, it should be something beyond looks and feels... A couple of web designers I asked to define "clean design" said, "when there's a harmony"... Too general to me.
I don't have my own definition of "clean design" as well as I can't really distinguish "cleanly designed" website among other websites.
So, I was wondering what it means to you (if it does), and what stands behind the term "clean design."

To me it means you don't need any explanation to browse the website and you feel at ease when doing it.

Personally when I say a "clean design" I mean something that has no clutter, clean lines, color harmony, consistent spacing/margins/paddings,etc. Something that not only is "pretty" but shows the content in a way where everything has it's place. Organization. No noise. If any of that makes sense.

That sums up my definition lol. I was surprised that the color white was the first thing that came to my mind but I don't think that should be the case...but those are the ones that appeal to me I guess. *shrugs
For a long time I confused a clean design with minimalistic design. My preference is clean.

I think if it's legible, uncluttered and the point is clearly put and you get your point across it's clean.
Color palette should not clash but there isn't a COLOR that defines "clean" I've seen beautifully clean designs in purple, green, piss yellow and burnt orange.

@RightOn - You're right about color but for some reason I can't think of a site with a clean design that isn't basically white (or light). I know there are zillions out there and I will feel dumb about not being able to remember one if I ever think of one. I just went to Template Monster real quick because I know they have a collection and the vast majority are light in color (but not all of them are what I would consider clean though).
Haha, this is funny I can't think of a clean dark site.

It means I don't get a seizure when I look at it. It also means that everything on the page has a purpose besides 'Oh man, the CEO really wants to have Flash'.

Clutter-free, simple, good use of empty space, balanced layout, even lines...
I love clean design. Hoever, I don't think it's sensible to say you specialise in 'clean' design as it's a bit one-track and it's not the only way.
