i like the speech bubbles

It's a clean design, but it feels really familiar. The diagonal backgrounds, gradients and icons all feel a little....sterile to me. It will be a good design if the focus is on your content, but I don't think the design itself is going to garner you much attention. But that may be the idea, I dunno.

I like the speech bubbles as well, but they kinda need something associated with them. As in, when you read a comic, the speech bubble comes out of the person who is speaking. Your bubbles don't. Maybe code it so the commenters avatar is placed underneath the 'pointy down bit'. Or at minimum, their name (and link if appropriate). Generally speaking, nice layout though. The diagonal background lines make it hard to read, but that is probably just a personal preference.

I like it, but I think it would better with a little pop of color.

BTW, I was born in Germany too. =)

Hmm yeah, my spelling can be so awfull...

I'm just a 'user' with a limited interest in usability and design (and then mainly for work) but I don't see how callout bubbles would direct to posts. To me, that implies comments (same for Ollie, judging by his reply). Maybe an arrow to the side of the box would send the message 'go here' more?

Otherwise, pretty sharp look.

I quite like it. It could do with a dash of colour though, maybe. It's a little boring as it is--colour-wise, not the design itself, to be clear.

I agree with Nils about the speech balloons too. The metaphor doesn't work. The tails don't actually point to anything. And aside from that, their use in blogs is already too well known as a formatting for comments, that I find it hard to identify them with something that author has written. I think the colouring for them also steals focus from the main content a little, when they're obviously intended only as secondary content.

Just my take on it, though.

You have a similar design live. The core looks like Subtle. Kind of messed up you aren't giving credit where credit is due. You removed it, which is against their Creative Commons license.

Yer Subtle is used for core copyright icon was removed until i can make a smaller one as it kills the footer at the moment, just bare with me.

Looks good, but I don't know how it'll play with the striped background. Hope the content is readable and clear, otherwise good design! I like it!
