Having to watch MTP for AP Government not only gave me huge respect and admiration for Russert and his deference to the principles of journalism, it inspired me to work toward a career in political journalism. Weird how just as I'm getting back on that path (starting my poli-sci coursework in August) he passes.

There is no one on any network dedicated to fairness in journalism and politics and pursuit of the truth as he was. That he was taken so young (and at work, no less) is so tragic. Watching the returns on Election Day just won't be the same.

This is really sad news for anyone involved in journalism.

An ambulance rushed to the studio and a source at the network said Russert was briefly revived. But, the broadcasting lion apparently passed away either on the way or at a local Washington D.C. hospital.

My father-in-law passed away a few short months ago in exactly the same manner -- sudden heart attack, little that could have been done. What a blow to his NBC and real-life families.
