I think it looks good, although I can't read the text so I can't tell you how well the menus are placed and ordered and such. I think it looks perhaps a bit too, uptodate for a church website?

I may be conservative, but it's missing a little 'historic' though in my own opinion. Or something like that. If you know what I mean.
Is there a reason for the nautical theme? I like the visual design very much. Can't comment beyond that as I can't read the text, but I think it looks very nice overall.
Yes, that emphasized flotation device is misleading, this is suppose to be a website for the organization that helps people (poor, homeless). So the theme is a little bit too far in the vicinity of a vacation cruise. Try to get the idea of helping people more visible, using other symbols perhaps.
