Jonah, I hate to break it to you, but being accepted into 9rules isn't going to skyrocket your blog in terms of promotion. I think the most valuable thing about membership is that it gives you access to a community of other passionate bloggers.

Maybe a better question would be:

What will you do to promote your blog today?

Today I will leave thoughtful, relevant comments on 5 other sites that I enjoy and read on a regular basis, but aren't in my site's niche.

What Abi did is right. If you visit one new blog every day, actually read the content, and make a relevant comment, then you will (in the long run) see your site's hits go up a lot.

Networking is the best option. It's really a long term action, but the results are certain.
Using web forums and collaborative sites like Digg also are good options.

I would change the layout and upgrade it - but I also like Abi's idea.

Actually - I changed my mind. I'm going with Abi's idea and choosing 5 random 9Rules sites and leaving a comment 'cuz I loves my 9ers.

I think the world would be a better place if we all left more comments on 9Rulers' sites.

Just in case you all forgot, there are blogs outside 9rules too.

Getting featured on 3 of the top blogs in my space, and then see that go viral.

Participate on other blogs. Its amazing how you can generate your own traffic and readers by going to other peoples blogs and posting real, quality comments on their site.

I never ever put any sort of reference to my blog other than the spot available in the form. Its worked pretty well for me so far.

I am an amateur here, but how does placing comments on other blogs help mine? Sorry for the rookie question!

It primarily works because readers of other blogs--or at least their owners--will probably visit your blog, and may become regular readers.
