I've been reading from Postcards from the Funny Farm for a while now and Damien is flaunting his stats (showoff!!). Every month he has one entry about his goals, if he reached them and what exactly they were. It's amazing seeing a blog, or just someone for that matter, grow and surpass their goals.

Goals have always been a huge part of my life. My Dad instilled the importance of them in me when I was just a kid, telling me that I would have no direction in life without them. How right he was!

Now, without goals, I notice that I walk aimlessly. Not only in every day life, but also with my blogging, my writing (articles, those novels etc.). I have to make goals, achieve them and then make bigger goals in order to DO something in life.

Even though this was always a "Have-To" for me, I've been afraid to give myself goals in blogging. I guess I must be afraid of failure. When you really think about it, failure is how you learn...but it's one thing to know that in your head and another thing to actually apply it to your life!

And so, I hereby make my first goal:

Goal #1: 50 Daily Visits to my blog.

Yep, it's on the easier side, although it will take some work. But it's a goal, and I'm slowly working towards it. I need to make other goals, I know, but they'll come with time. I'm not rushing myself. Yet.

Goals are a great way to track your progress and actually give you something to aim for. If you start a blog and the only goal is to become popular then you have no roadmap of achieving that. If you say that you want to reach 50 daily visits to your blog it's easier to layout what needs to be done to achieve that goal.

The idea of course is to make sure you set realistic goals as you have done here. You can't set an end goal such as 100,00 pageviews daily without knowing that you need to each 100 pageviews first. If you can't reach the first goal then it gives you time to figure out what needs to be improved with the site so that you can achieve that goal. If you are stretching for 100k right off the bat you might waste the rest of your life trying to figure out why you haven't gotten there yet.

I'm just as susceptible to this as the next guy because sometimes we get caught up in what can be without remembering what needs to be done to get there.

True true! Thanks for your input, I always find your comments really helpfull!

Heh, you might be the only person to ever say that so thank you ever so much.
