I'm not a heavy user in the WordPress plugin field and therefore I only have one must have for all my site (since Akismet comes default now...right?) and that's PodPress which has made publishing podcasts a breeze. Of course if you look at Wisdump and Oreo CEO you can see they are so simply that I probably don't even need WordPress to use them. Just give me a simple text editor.

So what am I missing out on?

For me, I always install Extended Live Archives first. If you use K2, installing ELA basically means your archives ready to go.

Wow podpress is cool! I didn't know about it before. Thanks for that!

Here's what keeps 531 ticking. There are so many options for WP users it's almost overwhelming.

So many options indeed. I'm not sure about favorite but I know the first one I'd install is the Admin Drop Down Menu by Andy Staines.

Nice tip on the admin plugin Griffin. Drop down menus definitely saves time.

I would have to say UTW, especially when combined with other plugins such as ELA. Makes browsing a WP site a dream.

Ehh must be RumMovie ;) Hehe...

I think that Live is a good plugin. It's basically a plugin that lets you watch your site activity in real time with all that AJAXy goodness.

Hrm. I'm going to go with... my number one being Image Browser because it makes inserting and looking through images so much easier then the WordPress image uploader thing (which I actually disable :-x).

And one that I recently setup that seems to be so very helpful is WP-Cache. That's probably a given for most of you though ;-).

Ha, Paul just pointed out WP-Cache to me a few days back. Saves your server from higher than normal traffic loads. That image browser plugin is a great alternative. I forgot I had that one loaded.

I really adore UTW when combined with ELA. The Page Links To plug-in is quite nice as well, and comes in handy in many instances where you want to have a Wordpress page link offsite. WP Contact Form is another very handy plug-in as well. Sure beats hand coding a contact form! :-)

Though I have to say that Akismet is probably the best plug-in ever, as it destroys about 98% of the spam that my sites see.

Bad Behaviour is basically the reason I didn't give up on blogging 18 months ago. Since then I know a fair bit more about the whole spamming situation so I have Spam Karma 2 as a backup - but it is hardly ever used. Something might get past Bad Behaviour maybe once every 2 months, for SK2 to take care of.

The most useful plugin for me is runPHP. I have some tools and web apps that I need to connect to my existing data. Most of the time I can just copy/paste the code from my old site in to the new WordPress site.

I also really like the Landing Sites plugin from http://theundersigned.net and the Related Pages plugin.

I'm just gonna go right ahead and plug my own plugin here... Pages+ is a plugin I wrote to help with page-based WP sites. It's basically a better way of navigating through pages and helps us drastically, as we have 2,500 in our site (and 0 posts!).

That and WP_Cache are the two I couldn't live without at work. Akismet is the only neccessity on my personal site.

Hi this is Prabhkaran. I am new to this site. I am working with www.gatewaytechnolabs.com.

My favorite WP Plugin is 9rules. :) haha.

While not really a "plugin" per se, my Better-Than-Live AJAX Search is probably my favorite "extension."

My favourite plugin is:
CA-Credits, because it gives my commenters credit for commenting. They get a link for it and I get an easy list I can use to visit them back.

...and we all lived happily ever after ;-)

(You can see it in action at my blog)

Thanks for pointing me to podpress, Scrivs. That's an awesome plugin since I've just started doing podcasts.

Custom Query String is a must-have for me. I can display a smaller amount of posts on my front page but still turn up 50+ results per page when someone does a site-wide search.

Ultimate Tag Warrior is a must-have for me too. I love the combination of tags with cats.

I have to agree with:
Bad Behaviour
Ultimate Tag Warrior
Admin Drop Down Menus

I've rolled together a few mods for UTW that make it even more useful (to me). There's a package on my blog...

I also love ZenPressed for integration with my ZenPhoto gallery (with the modified stopdesign theme for k2 ;-)).

And Dagon Design's Sitemap Generator is pretty handy.

bad behavior
UTW
tiger style admin

Gotta go bbPress even though it's not really a plugin... it's what runs all of 9rules Notes :)

I just started using this Maintenance Mode plugin. It's really handy if you are fixing up your site and it's not ready for the public eye.

The problem with using 30 plugins is that I don't have a favourite. I love each of those plugins, otherwise I wouldn't have them activated! :)

Some of the plugins I'd recommend are:

  • Comment Email Responder allows you to respond to a commentator without leaving the page you're looking at. Your respond will appear both on the page, and in the commentator's mailbox!
  • Comment Timeout disables comments after a user-specified period. Cuts down on spam.
  • Feed With Comments displays all your comments in the feed so your commentators/subscribers will be able to follow the conversation.
  • WordPress Database Backup makes scheduled backups of your blog and sends the file to your mailbox.
  • WP AJAX Edit Comments allows your commentators to edit their own comments (spelling/grammar mistakes) within the admin-specified time frame.

They're not exactly essential, but these plugins make my blog what it is today, LOL.

Akismet! I cannot imagine a bloggers life without akismet and tons of spam comments to check and delete!

My favorite WP plugin is HeadSpace2.

It is a robust meta-data plugin that makes me feel like I actually have control over my own blogs.

I love Kates Gasis's Side Blog plug-in. Really good for asides.

the first plugin i install on every site i build is WP Tiger admin because the stock admin panel is ugly as sin to me.

@ericjohnson
That's quite a plugin. I've never heard of or seen it but it looks beautiful. Though I've never had much of a problem with WordPress's back end, I'm thinking about using it.

Now that I have Apple in the palm of my hand I LOVE the WPhone plugin that gives you an "iphone style" UI for the WP Admin area.

Definitely Counterize II and FAlbum!
LiveJournal Crossposter also helps me alot with my uh...... promotional campaign '-'

Based on a near life shattering experience (well... maybe not that serious):

WP Database Backup

Always comes in handy when you or someone else fark's your site up.

WP-Cache has to be my favorite. Though I also like All-In-One-SEO. It lets me define meta keywords, description, etc on a per-post basis (which I only do for posts I think will have some longevity).

Akismet and Comment Timeout. I love them to bits. *nods*

ALL in One SEO Plugin

I'm with pelf. I've got a lot of plugins installed, all of which have been time tested (used for a while and replaced with better solutions). I tend to try a lot of stuff but I don't usually stick with much. That said, my favorite is:

Textile 2 (Improved)

Of course ALL in One SEO Plugin, Comment Timeout, Twitter Tools, and Postalicious are also great to have!

I'm using the following plugins for my site.

I have used Ultimate Tag warrior before when wordpress doesn't have tag feature. I started to using WP23 related post plugin for showing related posts After wordpress 2.3 introduced tags in posts.

WP Social Network Plugin - Turns any Wordpress powered site into a fully functial social network like MySpace, Facebook, or even 9 Rules. Complete with friend lists, private messaging, and mobile IMs. :D

Haha Kineda my friend you linked to your own site, not the plugin. Give us the plugin url.

It's vaporware buddy! Thus the giant smiley. That would be one killer plugin though wouldn't it. ;)

One plugin that does come close to such hotness though is Fresh Post. It turns Wordpress almost into a full fledged CMS.

Lately I sorta dig this video comments plugin but I'm biased because I made it. ;)

Spam Karma 2 is one of my favorite plugins. I find it even more effective than Akismet.

The All-in-one SEO pack is a favorite, too.
