I'm working on integrating a message board into my blog and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. The last thing I want is a dead board that nobody uses so I think any words of wisdom would be a good thing.
Right now, I'm pulling a decent amount of traffic and I think I'd be able to keep the board floating with the people I have and maybe use it to pull in more people.
Any help or ideas about expanding ones blog?

I think adding a messageboard turns it into something other than a blog--not that there's anything wrong with that!
Just curious, why do comments not serve the purpose you're looking for? In my perspective, the addition of reader generated content not in response to your posts or articles moves it more towards a community. Communities are great too, but what is it you're trying to accomplish with this expansion?

Message board. As in a forum or one of those chat things on the sidebar?
Because if it's those chat things on the sidebar or even forums, I've moved away from that for a long time. I think it takes the focus away from the content of the blog itself. Ozone is right, it turns the site into something more than a blog.
Times like this, you have to ask yourself, why exactly do you need it for? What purpose does it serve. If none, then its just dead weight.

My advice is not to use a message board.

Yeah, I've been thinking about it for a little while now. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I don't need the hassle. I'll be sticking with my blog-only format.
Thanks for all the input everyone!

Discussion boards attract spammers, especially when they're not being used that much!
