I've just post a new entry in my blog regarding this topic, wanting to discuss about what do we actually get from blogging.. apart from money

it's different now and then.. where now we've seen lots of people started to blog for the reason of money. I'm tired of this..

what do we get from blogging? does it matter to you anyway?

Friends, Jobs, Money, Community, Popularity, Inspiration.

You get your thoughts out. I don't even make money from my blog, nor had I planned on it, the the satisfaction of writing and knowing that people read what you have to say is a good feeling. That's all I need.

Knowing that I am given the opportunity to share my thoughts with whoever might come across them. We are blessed to have this medium that allows us to tackle every corner of the globe and find like-minded people. Oh and I can cuss people out without ever having to meet them.

Introspection. When you take the time to describe something to someone else--especially someone you don't know--I think that you get a fuller understanding of it than you would otherwise.

A persistent memory. I choose to write a lot of what I write so that I can reference later. There's other stuff thrown in, of course, but that's my primary motivation.

if i decided not to share this here, then i wouldn’t know what you guys had in mind..

I do it to speak my mind and interact with people who have the same interests as I do. Heck, I even like meeting people who don't like the same things. Makes things interesting.

@robwilkerson - "persistent memory". I like that.

I mainly get connections and the chance to talk to people I wouldn't otherwise get to talk to.

Collecting stuff is a lot more fun when you can show it off to people who are into it. My real life friends aren't into my collecting hobby, so it's no fun showing off a new toy to them. Blogs are such a huge boost to so many niche hobbies.

As I said before, sometimes it's just for us to do what we love. Bloggers with a passion for something, for anything they love. That's something worth reading.

Sadly, that's lacking in so many blogs out there.

I just use my blog to put down my thought and ideas.

We get an inflated sense of importance, as well as an ego that people care about our opinion.

Or at least I do.

*giggles*

I use mine as a way of expressing my political opinions without REALLY spending too much time worrying if people agree or not.

I often wonder.

I know that when I first started blogging and came across an eighty year old poet from Scotland I was amazed and hooked.... an eighty year old poet whom I would have never known existed otherwise....not would he have known of me...

It's just fun, somewhat addicting. There is always someone to tell you you are the greatest thing since hot red hearts and always right, or the stupidest bitch they've ever read and always wrong. Strengthens the character.

Once in awhile you make a point no one has ever made and someone goes woa, sometimes it is just worth the funny comments, better than smoking for a break from work and school...all that and more I'm sure.

@Cooper: Have you mentioned the poet getting you into blogging somewhere before? Either you have or that was one serious deja vu that I've experienced right now.

We get an inflated sense of importance, as well as an ego that people care about our opinion.

*hi-fives Seopher*

Seriously, though, I blog because I want to keep a record of my growth. When I'm old I would want to sit down and go through my archives, and laugh at my thoughts; laugh at my antics. It's a picture that keeps me going: in my mind's eye I have kids, and my wife will be chucking a frying pan in my direction over a sexist remark I made back when I was - what? - 16?

Ahh ... good times lie ahead.

Novelr, the other blog I run ... well. That's pure passion, that is - I don't get anything else out of it other than the people I meet and the stories I read.

And that - come to think of it - is pretty worthwhile.

I get to express myself, make some friends, meet people in the advertising business (and I guess that applies on any business, depending on your blog's content), and yeah, get some money, which is mostly inverted on the hosting service anyway.

And it's always a good excuse when you are bored!

A bit of many things. Ability to build a brand online, ability to express my opinion and hope that someone cares. The side effects are sometimes the real satisfaction. Invitations to science foo camp, interviews with people you admire, new friends, etc

I just love writing. It's relaxing to me. In addition to that, it's a great place for me to work out stuff I'm thinking about.
