I'm getting ready to install a test bed of Chyrp and am curious if anyone else has given this a test drive?

I'd like to see if this is a possible WordPress alternative for my own personal site. I'm in the need of new technology for clients and this seems like one simpler form of tool for managing blog content.

I just checked it out earlier today and it looked interesting. It's from our friend Alex who didn't even post in 9rules to tell us it was live. No love!

I just migrated my tumblelog from Tumblr to a Chyrp installation. So far I am much more pleased with Chyrp than Tumblr, although because of Tumblr's maturity it does have additional features which I would like to see get integrated in to Chyrp at some point. Overall, I am happier on Chyrp, especially now that I finished porting my Wordpress theme to Chryp!

I am currently evaluating this as well. I expect to use Chyrp for a substantially longer period of time before determining if it is viable to switch away from Wordpress. While I adore Chyrp, Wordpress is far more mature, stable and extensible at this juncture. But I am definitely giving Chyrp a good look.

Mike: Sure he did; it's how I found out about Chyrp. He posted about it right here. You even posted in that thread. ;-)

Haha you got me there..... but that was the beta testing thread. It got some linkage recently because I'm assuming it's now out of beta, so that's how I found it. My memory.... it does nothing!

My memory.... it does nothing!

I feel ya on that one - try being an old bastard like me, and see what old age does to the memory!

Hey, look, a topic on Chyrp that I didn't start myself! :P

It didn't seem like there was much of an interest, so I didn't want to keep bumping that note.

@alexsuraci

Nah I'm geniunely intrigued by Chyrp keep up the good work.

Yeah Alex, I saw this the other day and was surprised there was no announcement here considering that everyone likes to try out everything new. The site design is mad nasty.

Been playing with Chyrp for a few days now. It seems quite nice but there's a distinct lack of documentation/help for new users. Most of the time it's been pretty easy to use, but I've had to make a couple of forum searches on the chyrp site for a few issues and found that the niggles I've had have been fairly common. As a young project it's awesome, but part of me still wants to use Wordpress (because I'm so much more familiar with it) and a tumblelogging theme instead.

I think that's the case with any project coded by one person, I'm sure it's on the way.

Yep, the community forum was helpful when I needed it though, so that's filling the gap for the time being.

Swan: What kind of documentation are you looking for? There's sort of a small discussion on why it doesn't exist, but it really depends on what you're looking for.

I think I just expected a little more info than is readily available. Of course, I didn't expect Chyrp to be quite so simple to use once I got into it. I think that's part of what initially threw me off - I thought it was so bafflingly easy that I was missing something and I'd done/was doing something wrong... weird feeling :) I understand your stance on documentation, though, and that's fair enough.

My only real niggle with Chyrp came about because I'm one of those idiots who spent ten minutes wondering why my tumblr feather wasn't working because I had just uploaded the entire folder (thinking it was an all-in-one feather) instead of pulling out the individual feathers. Doh! Course, a quick glance at the community forum sorted me out though, and now I know better!
