I bought my Macbook in December '06. The first problem occurred around March, when the keyboard broke completely. I had to wait 3 weeks for a replacement part. Two weeks after I had my new keyboard, the hard drive completely died overnight, and I went for 6 weeks without my computer. Last night, the computer died again. (I'm pretty sure it's the hdd, but we're waiting for the geeks to confirm.) Furthermore, the charging cable connector is crooked when I plug it in, and sometimes it won't charge. The keyboard case is also cracking again. I'm convinced I got a lemon.

If they diagnose it as another failed hard drive, I'm going to demand that Apple replace the computer. First of all, I refuse to wait 6 weeks again for a new hard drive that will, if history proves anything to go by, fail again. Secondly, it's not fair to stick me with a computer that I can't use for months out of the year because it's a skinny, beautiful, white POS.

What do you think the best way to go about this is? How do I present my case effectively and, most importantly, get what I want?

Sorry to hear about that - my Macbook's HD died last week, too. Unfortunately, I have no tips on how to present your case and get what you want because I never ever get what I want, haha.

Just simply spend the time detailing your bad experience like you have and then get the name and address of someone significant in customer care and send it to them. Also get Super Duper and make regualar clones of your HD to minimize the trouble when disaster strikes.

I have backups, that's not the issue. It's the constant trips to the Apple Repair store, the fact that the woman there knows me on sight, and that I work on my computer. It needs to be reliable, and that's one of the reasons I use a Mac. That is the reason why I want a replacement.

Calling and giving the gory details sounds like a great idea. When I get the official diagnosis, I'll be armed and ready for that conversation.

Good luck, Erin. That is a total bummer to be stuck with a lemon. :( Hope you get a working, reliable replacement. :)
