Overall I'm happy with what was announced. Mail updates especially. Anyone else?

i'm looking forward the the mail update as well. i'm not however looking forward to waiting to flippin spring.

I am completely psyched for Leapord. I think I saw pretty much what I expected out of the keynote this year, despite a lot of peple assuming there'd be some ipods/iphones/etc.

I can't help but feeling that we'll see some kind of event in the fall that capitalizes on Apple's "non-geeky" crowd with some new iPods, and some kind of venture into the mobile web.

Yeah there was nothing earth shattering but some of the features announced I would use. Like Time Machine, that has to be the most awesome backup software ever. I have an external drive and that would Time Machine would be the perfect fit for it. No more ChronoSync for me!

Remember the SmackBook? Spaces is like that, without the smacking. Multiple desktops are going to be very useful. Apple is always changing the way we work on the computer.

Even so, I can't help but feel a little underwhelmed by this year's WWDC. Never expected iPods/iPhones, those are usually announced at separate special events. I think Apple couldn't go all out in promoting Leopard because of the Vista delays, they didn't want to clue Microsoft in on stuff that they'd copy to shore up their woefully late OS. I'm hoping Apple does have something really innovative up their sleeves though, expectations are always so high people are bound to get disappointed. Read that shares dropped after today's keynote.

Xeon powered workstations? I thought they were going to use the Core 2 Duos.

Did anyone look at the Closed Captioning feature for Quicktime in Leopard? It sounds like the sorta the thing that the anime community has been doing with the MKV file format.

30" Cinema price dropped to $1,999... boo ya!

Damn can't even get a good link to where the announcements are?

Leopard seems like a better upgrade than Panther to Tiger, in my opinion. Time Machine and Screen Sharing looks fresh.

My opinion on Leopard for those interested :) :

The significance of Leopard

As my friend Kelmon said to me, it seems a bit odd that Apple would be holding out on Leopard features just to keep the spies from Redmond at bay. Vista has had so many features cut already, and is (I think) feature complete at the moment (assuming nothing else is cut) so I find it hard to believe they'd incorporate any major new features, copying what Apple could have introduced at the conference. I think it's just more a case of "they're not done yet".

The time spent on bagging out Microsoft for copying was also a bit more than necessary, and a tad ironic seeing as Apple's new "Spaces" are something I have seen my brother using on Linux for years.

That said, Time Machine has me impressed, the dashboard additions look like fun, and seeing as I'm not even a Mac user (and hence already thought heaps of things in Tiger were amazing, let alone Leopard's improvements so far), I am simply stunned by the things coming out of Apple. It makes me feel like I am a caveman, on this PC.

Indeed, they are not done yet. As I said in the above mentioned link I think some of the secrets are based on Front Row and Photo Booth. Those are designed to impress people and Front Row will get the 'Time Machine' animation update with the new easier Core Animation.

But I don't think they are keeping it secret for Redmond but for the mac developers. If they saw a new front row they would begin to build and release it theirselves. Then Apple would loose a reason to let people upgrade to Leopard. It is all about keeping some enthousiasm for the release date.

It also seems that they only showed OSX internal system updates and updates to existing OSX software. New to be included software was not shown. New standard productivity enhancement apps could easily be copied and build market share before Leopard hits.

And of course Apple now has some time to improve the User Experience.

As Cyrris said in response to weisheng, "virtual desktops" are hardly revolutionary. Linux has done it forever and Windows has a PowerToy for XP. Just like Google, when Apple does something new to you it must be revolutionary...

Do the existing virtual desktops have the same overview modes after clicking a button and a way to drag and drop programs? (As far as I can see that is new, but I can be wrong.)

But well it is now standard in OSX for every user and the concept is now democratized to a much larger market. That is revolutionary. The mp3 player was also already there, tabbed browsing was there, but apple brings those to the masses and MS sees it as inspiration to copy those initiatives for the rest of the masses.

To dos..... to dos..... to dos.... notes got me happy. I'll be in the corner smiling then.
