What is everyones mail client of choice for OS X? I am currently using gmail but it is to slow, I am looking for a mail client that meets a few requirements ...
* Quick, no memory/CPU hogs
* Custom From: headers based on what address the email was sent to(automatic preferrably)
* Good filtering - I am on a lot of mailing lists and I like to keep my inbox pretty empty, having to move a bunch of emails to thier respective folders annoys me
* Pretty - not a requirement, but it would be nice
Anyone know of any that fit the description? I have tried Mail and Thunderbird and couldn't find the custom From: headers in either of them, and neither of them seemed terribly fast. Although Mail is gorgeous.

I'm not sure I can be of much help. I use Mail and gmail myself. Not much of a poweruser either so I tend to not notice lapses in functunality. Nonethless, I'm aware of two other mail options, I think. I haven't use them, just aware they exist. Might be of use, might not. You may have even considered them but I'll throw them out in case.

I use Mail just because it was built-in, works well, and is integrated with everything...

I use Mail app. You can have custom from headers if you have more than one account set up in the prefrences. I myself have 2 set up and there is a drop down in compose asking me which I want to use.

is there a way to setup a dummy account that doesn't receive mail but exists as an identity? All of my email addresses are forwarded to the same address, so it is all received on one account. Howerver if someone sends something to pablo@irgeek.net and it is forwarded to and received on my gmail account, when i respond it will appear to be coming from my gmail account and not the address it was sent to. This has caused problems in the past that I would like to avoid.

That is definitely possible, but at the moment can't recall where I saw the article for it. I tried searching and got nothing. Hopefully someone can pop in here and help ya out. I hate email and cellphones anyways. Let's go back to the good ol singing telegram days.

That is great, I just wish it would allow different email's to be sent out with different contact names. I don't want pablo@irgeek.net going out with my real name, nor do I want my professional email address going out with my online handle ... But I guess we can't have everything we ask for =)

I suppose the other way is to create another account with the same details (incoming/outgoing server) just with a different email address (and name) and get it not to check for new mail. Its a long way round but would work.

I tried that, you can only create one account with each set of credentials, so each would have to have thier own server/username/password combo to setup as a seperate account.
