Today's Quofda goes back to the age old question of what do you prefer, boxers or briefs? This applies to women just as much as men because you should like to see your man in certain attire more than other types. For me it is boxers when it is casual time and anytime there is physical activity involved (with clothes) it's boxer briefs. I don't own a straight up pair of tighty whiteys.

Boxer briefs have essentially rendered this question obsolete.

So when presented with two options always choose the combination of the two?

@scrivs: logical fallacy. Just because there are two points of view does not mean that the midpoint between the two must be the right answer. That said, boxer briefs are by FAR the best choice.
First, you have snugness of the briefs. These help keep the boys from moving in ways which, while natural, may be uncomfortable, especially in dress pants.
Second, you have the length of the boxer, which adds a certain level of protective comfort. (I think it also adds a +1 to my AC from the mid-thigh up.)
Boxers have no elasticity to them. That means if you're wearing thight-ish pants, then the boxers will bunch up. Not a comfortable feeling. But, if the boxers are tight enough not to bunch up then they tend to ride up, which eventually either causes pain (and reminds you of how castratis were made) or simply defeats the purpose of wearing underwear by letting stuff hang as it may. If they're too tight then the opening in the front can become a problem, as it can let something hang and let things get caught in the zipper.
Briefs are better becaus ethey're elastic, but the way they naturally hug the hip joint makes it feel like you're weaking a man-bikini, a mankini, if you will. (Not a thong. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NOT A THONG!) The upper part of the thigh can be a very sensitive area and needs to be protected from the pants, even if the pants are of quality material. Also, because of their construct, they tend to chafe right inside the upper thigh, and let's face it, that's a place you DON'T want to chafe.
Boxer briefs combine the best of both worlds, comfort and protection, while deminishing, if not completely eliminating the undesirable effects. Good quality boxer briefs will win every time. Even mid-quality boxer briefs are generally more desirable.

Probably the most thorough analysis of the subject the web has ever seen.

I prefer my boys in boxer briefs.
As I have no boys I wear boxers.

Boxer-briefs. I don't have to "hang out" too much risking some nasty sore spots from the zipper (bad experience...), and I don't have to look silly by wearing briefs.
@Gnorb, that just made my day.

I fail to believe that all of you wear boxer briefs. I think some of you are simply going with the crowd.

Here, I don't care, I'll be real...I wear all of them
I usually chillax around the house in the boxers
I'll wear boxer briefs with loose fitting slacks. They tend to crawl up with tighter fitting pants like blue jeans -- the elastic round the thighs gets worn out, or I have large thighs, or something
Briefs with jeans, or on days I don't feel like fussing with unruly boxerbriefs (I'll even admit to owning a few pair of tighty whiteys). However, if my scivvies are going to be in the outward presence of my beautiful wife, it's always the darker colored cotton boxer briefs or the decorative boxers.

I was curious to see if there was survey data about this topic, I couldn't find any worth noting (this is probably the best I found). But I did find this rather entertaining essay, "In Praise of Boxer Briefs" that may actually beat Gnorb in it's thorough exploration of the topic.

I bow to the Slate's superior praising of boxer briefs. That's some pure, unfettered underwear nerdyness.

Briefs to go out because they are snug and keeps all my naughty bits from being scrunched up at the wrong times in a mixed company.
Boxers to go to sleep because I want my naughty bits to breathe in the middle of the night and not wake me up from pain.
Sometimes none at all for both cases, but those are very very different stories altogether.
