This note is prompted by who I saw at dinner tonight while out to dinner with Eleni. Just across the room, about 15' away, was a table with a guy and his mom and the entire night I kept telling Eleni that I could swear it was Clay Aiken but I wasn't sure since I'm not really a fan of his. The night went on and he was just chatting with his mom, eating, and it was bugging me cause I didn't know. I overheard him saying to the waiter that he couldn't have any of the featured desserts because he was allergic to chocolate, so when I got home I did some quick Googling and it was definitely him... crazy! Of course it's not that crazy since he's from Raleigh and went to high school about 5 miles away from my house lol.
Last year I ran into Eddie Guerrero at an airport around 6am, said hi, he was very nice. Unfortunately only a few months later he passed away.
About three years ago I was driving in Chicago when I stopped at a red light on Michigan Ave. I looked at the car next to me and it was Derek Jeter and Jason Giambi in an X5! They were in town for the All-Star Game... too bad I hate the Yankees :)
How about you guys?

Speaking of Clay Aiken and American Idol, I use to see Ryan Seacrest all the time at a local area El Torito when I still lived in Los Angeles.
Before he "made it big" he worked for a radio station called Star 98.7 FM which was close to a client of mine and we'd go to El Torito for lunch or dinner and see him on occasion.
He probably doesn't go there much anymore since so many people know who he is.
I also ran into Whoopie Goldberg in Las Vegas once. I actually got a picture with her. I should post that sometime.

On my way home from work I saw Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn filming Break Up (i'm told it was the final scene... he was coming out of a hardware store).

I tend to run into King's players (basketball, not hockey). I saw Peja Stojakovic at the strip club once, and I went to highschool with Matt Barnes. I can't tell you how upset I am that he was traded to the Golden State Warriors. I dislike him immensly, and it kills that he plays for my team. I used to have to scrimmage against him in HS when I played basketball--I was the only girl tall enough to go up against him.
My cousin-in-law has painted Eddie Murphy's house in Granite Bay, and my cousin's best friend dated Chris Webber (the girlfriend before Tyra Banks).
And I've met numerous rockstars at concerts, but I don't really think that counts, although Art Alexis (of Everclear), did once call out to me and my sister when we were on the balcony at the Filmore, asking us why we wern't down in the front row (and we knew he was talking to us, because the rest of the balcony was filled with middlege men).

On a trip to LA I saw Chad Lowe and Martin Sheen outside a small coffee shop in Malibu. A couple days later, I shared an elevator with Matthew Perry.

I have seen Kim Beazley the leader of the Australian Labor Party in Sydney, last year. I have also seen Ricky Stuart, the Australian Rugby League Coach in the City and Andrew Hansen from the Chaser at Central Station.
That is about as famous as you can get in Australia: The leader of the opposition, Coach of the Kangeroos or a member of a sartical comedy.

I just saw quite a few recently at a party but they don't phase me. They are people just like everyone else. For some reason people put these people on a pedestal, most are undeserving.
Of course I haven't seen Jensen Atwood yet. I might pass out if I see him. :)

When I was in LA back in 1999, I saw Rhea Perlman on the street. That's as celebrity as I get.

In 1999 I used to work at Nordstroms part time after school. Ginuwine was in town for a concert and came in there (since its was the only place to shop in Ancorage, Alaska).
Last summer I was on the north side at a street fair and ran into Rachel from MTV's real world campus crawl. Luckily i had my camera phone !
She was pretty sweet and didn't mind me snapping a picture:

I did walk straight into, literally, Lenny Kravitz in NYC once. I didn't even notice that it was him, until I turned around after the fact.

I was at San Francisco International, coming home from New York, and I saw John Mayer standing at the baggage claim carousel.
I wasn't completely sure it was him at the time. I just kept staring at him, making up my mind as to whether or not it was actually John Mayer. I mean, other than one guy he was talking to, no one else was approaching him.
When I told my friend, she showed me a link to the Engadget update of Steve Jobs' keynote at Macworld.
I was devastated! Just kidding. From the pictures I knew it was him at the airport because he was wearing the exact same shirt. Now that I think about it, it's kinda gross.

seanrox: I saw Seacrest also, and remember the days of him being at Star 98.7.
Here are some celebrities I have seen (in restaurants, or airports, or in malls, or on the street, etc.).
Vitto Mortensen (on American Airlines, sitting across from me, in coach, on my way from LAX to London).
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban (Green Hills Mall, Nashville, TN)
Ryan Seacrest (in a mall in Los Angeles)
Keifer Sutherland (in Acton, CA)
Michael Jordan (in Westwood, CA)
Mel Gibson (in Malibu, CA, and also in Lancaster, CA)
Country music singer Clint Black (Nashville airport), and again, when he was at the baggage claim area in Los Angeles
Diana Ross (in a Las Vegas hotel)
Elvis Presley (when he was alive, in Beverly Hills, CA)

I met the band Switchfoot once while walking down the street in Hershey, PA with friends. It was pretty hilarious. We were walking and all the sudden one of my friends yells "hey look it's Switchfoot." Sure enough it was them. They were pretty cool guys.
Other than that, nothing other than events where you know you're going to meet people.

I only have famous-for-DC celebrity sightings:
A literal run-in with James Carville. I work above the Palm in DC, so there are always self-involved suit-clad men loitering around the front door. Not saying that James Carville is self-involved; I was the one who wasn't watching where I was going.

I have seen Chris Matthews,Tim Russert, and Tucker asshole Carlson recently as well as both McCain Clinton and Obama within the last couple of months.
A few others from pundit news, but I go to school and eat out in D.C., so that is not unusual.

It's cheating that I live in L.A.; you're essentially bound to run into at least a reality TV "star" if you're here for a week. But I thought I'd indulge myself. :P
Recently:
BJ Novak, who's Ryan/a writer for U.S. edition of The Office (Coffee Bean, driving on the street)
Jason Bateman (Hollywood and Highland Center)
Drew Barrymore with Justin Long on my birthday this year (Culver City)
Amy Smart (West LA) 2 weeks ago, whom I actually stopped and talked to because I was bursting that my best guy friend in the world had just wrapped shooting in Hong Kong opposite her as her newlywed husband
Santino Rice, a Project Runway contestant (LACMA)
Bijou Phillips (Pre-party for an LA Film Festival premiere)
Eva ? , winner of an old America's Next Top Model (Grand Lux Cafe at the Beverly Center)
Not so recently:
Adrien Grenier (LA Fashion Week)
Jack Black (LA Fashion Week)
Bruce Willis (Koi on La Cienega), who at the time told me that I "looked like I owned the place?"
Adrien Brody (Koi)
James Caan (Koi)
Ryan Seacrest (Beverly Hills Four Seasons)
Tara Reid (Beverly Hills Four Seasons)
Paris Hilton (Hollywood Palladium) w/Nicky Hilton (Farmer's Market at The Grove)
Ivana Trump (Hollywood Palladium)
Lindsay Lohan (Hollywood Palladium)
Nicole Riche (Hollywood Palladium)
Heather Locklear (Hollywood Palladium)
David Spade (Hollywood Palladium)
Christina Aguilera (Hollywood Palladium)

@estarla: You're disqualified for living in L.A., which is cheating.
Of course, I live in South Florida, and it's pretty much the same here (but since I don't live in Miami, it's not cheating, right?). Right off the bat I can only think of a few: Jim Carey, Kevin Costner, and Shaq. (I really don't the names of that many celebrities, so there's a fairly good chance I could have seen a lot more and not noticed).

The only time I run into celebrities are when I go places you would expect to run into celebrities... conventions, expos, seminars and the like.
I did live less than a mile from Deon Sander's place a few years back, but I really don't consider him a real celebrity.
I've met and talked with Vint Cerf, that was cool.

I work at a hotel, so I probably see someone famous a few times a year. Maybe it is cheating for me too. We have football teams stay at the hotel so I see alot of football players. Right now Alex Rodriguez is doing some physical therapy and staying at our hotel. Some of my favorite celebs I have seen:
Kevin Costner
Sting
Michael Jordan
Bill Murray

Jack White, Justin Timberlake, and Evan Handler (Harry from Sex and the City) are ones I've actually talked to. JT introduced himself to me and it was so cheesy. My boyfriend helped Tatum O'Neal balance a stack of takeout boxes outside a hotel in Metairie (what she was doing there, we'll never know).
Saw Blythe Danner at Jazzfest, too, watching Trombone Shorty.

On the plane on the way to L.A., last Thursday night, I saw country singer Winona Judd sitting in first class.
That is it for recent sightings.
